The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Positioned near Wangfujing shopping street, this hotel offers easy access to central Beijing attractions and subway transit. Rooms feature generous square footage, air purifiers, universal desk outlets, and spacious bathrooms with stone-slab rain showers. However, guests express disappointment with the instant in-room coffee and opaque bathroom doors that let light disturb sleeping children. 9864

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Guests consistently praise the central location within walking distance of subway transit, Oriental Plaza, and historic sights like the Forbidden City. 6910
  • Bathrooms receive widespread praise for their generous size, soaking tubs by the window, and rain showers over stone slabs. 96
  • Staff at the front door and in the club lounge earn high marks for courteous bag handling and well-stocked breakfast service. 9

The catch

  • While visitors to the top-floor lounge enjoy views of the Forbidden City, guests in standard rooms report seeing little beyond neighboring buildings. 9
  • Reviewers appreciate the relatively low room rates and award redemptions, but some find the breakfast buffet overpriced at over thirty dollars per adult. drawn from the full read

Who it's for

  • Sightseers visiting the Forbidden City
  • Shoppers walking to Wangfujing street
  • Travelers who value large soaking tubs and rain showers

Skip it if

  • Guests expecting fresh brewed in-room coffee instead of instant
  • Families bothered by opaque bathroom doors letting in light

Bathroom

  • While the room was nice enough, the bathroom was the most impressive. It was very spacious. 9
  • The shower was amazing. It is a rain shower over a stone slab and a small piece of heaven for me every morning. 9

Food

  • Offering a wide array of gourmet menus, their skilled chefs present a delectable fusion of international cuisines and traditional Chinese flavors. 8
  • Five nights there is a fantastic way to spend 70,000 Marriott points. With breakfast and dinner included with status, it is a great value. 9

Location

  • The location of the Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing is excellent for exploring the heart of Beijing. You are a reasonable walking distance from the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. 9

Room

93
read from 1 source · Deep coverage
  • Marriott has not truly wowed me yet with any upgrades, but our room at the Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing was very nice, and perfectly adequate for our stay. The fact that they fit in an extra bed made all the difference. 9
  • At the end of the room was the desk and a sitting area. The universal outlets at the desk were very much appreciated. I'd remembered to buy Type 1 plug adapters, but this just made everything easier. 9

Service

92
read from 1 source · Deep coverage
  • True to the Hilton brand, the service here is impeccable. 8
  • The staff at the door of the Renaissance were extremely helpful and courteous, even more so than I've experienced at upscale hotels in the United States, insisting on taking the bags, even though I initially told them no twice. 9

Value

  • The nightly rate is only 17,500 Marriott points with the fifth night free versus a cash rate of about $145 per night, making it an excellent award deal, in my opinion. 9
  • Great location, relatively low prices. Minutes from a subway station. Just a couple of feet from oriental plaza and other touristic attractions. 10

Food7 mentions
  • Overall, the Renaissance Beijing offers a great hotel breakfast. But at over $30 per adult, I'd pass if I had to pay for it. Food in China is cheap. 9
  • The restaurant does have a great setting. There is an open kitchen, and you can watch the couple chefs while they work. 9
  • The club lounge breakfast is very good. Even though it is a slightly trimmed down version of the restaurant breakfast, there are still plenty of options. 9
  • lots of yummy steamed stuff soups sweet steamed potatoes sausages eggs more breakfast sausage baked beans this is called Chinese pasta or fried catas lots of bread cold cups cheese egg station Spring Rolls homets cakes so actually a pretty good selection here to be honest with you 6
  • The in-room coffee was a bit of a disappointment, as it is all instant. I recall the same thing in Europe at upscale hotels, which is perplexing. If there is anything that should be included at a nicer hotel, it is good in-room coffee. 9
Service4 mentions
  • Large beds and accommodating staff. We were near some of our favorite spots such as the palace museum. 10
  • The breakfast buffet was well tended by the attentive lounge staff. Dishes were never messy and everything was always well-stocked. 9
  • The staff at the door of the Renaissance were extremely helpful and courteous, even more so than I've experienced at upscale hotels in the United States, insisting on taking the bags, even though I initially told them no twice. 9

  • The only issue with the bathroom was the opaque door. It was already difficult enough not to disturb the kids in the morning with the light switches located outside the bathroom. But a door that lets light into the room is even more unhelpful. 9

  • I think that was the last time I tried sharing a double bed with my 7-year-old son. There was a welcome platter with fruit on it, which must be the Platinum "food and beverage amenity". The lone bag of chips wasn't included. I don't remember how much it cost, but it was too much. 9
