  • Additionally, the elevator required you to swipe your keycard to access the club level and club-level rooms. Only one side of the elevator had a card reader, so people were constantly bumping into each other trying to get to their floors, and none of the keycards seemed to work more than half of the time. 7

  • Room AC was broken during the hottest two days of the years. The room hit 28C during the evening, making it difficult to stay asleep. Requested fix or room change in morning, but they could only provide portable AC in the evening that barely helped. Had to order delivery of fans at 4am. This unfortunately overshadows an otherwise wonderful experience as it messed up both nights of sleep. 11
  • Expect exceptional comfort and modern amenities no matter which room you choose. On camera10:50
  • I had booked a club room and was delighted to find myself in a spacious and beautifully decorated room with a comfortable bed and a nice, well-appointed bathroom. 12
  • The room temperature was at a constant perfect temperature. 11
  • Enjoy the convenience of an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, television, mini bar and beautiful Chinese décor. 4
  • At 79 square metres, the suite was expansive with a separated bedroom, a study area and living room. 9
  • The bed was in a separate room, and somehow felt even bigger than the king bed I'd been in the night before. 7
  • While I don't typically love monochrome tones, I liked that the refresh did not make the room look cheap and shabby as a result. Instead, it feels contemporary and welcoming - a much welcome improvement, for one. 10
  • With my keys in hand, another of the lobby hosts showed up to offer to bring my bags to the room. I ultimately turned down the offer, as I only had my trusty Rimowa trunk, which easily rolled with me. But wow, what a smooth arrival! 10
  • ”Studio” chairs in seating area were pretty comfortable 6
  • I was assigned a Deluxe City View Room on the 22nd floor, high enough to appreciate the excellent views of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and the old French Concession. 10
  • The guest rooms at The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai are comfortable and stylish. The white bed linens and pillows stand out against the long brown tufted headboard, tan walls and gold curtains. 20
  • Only upgraded to a studio, which is just a larger room with odd rotating partitions - I saw suites online, but they claimed high occupancy 6
  • As they weren't overly firm, they were very comfortable - certainly something I value compared to the oft hard mattresses in East Asia. There is also a large desk with a comfortable leather chair, alongside a comfortable velvet-upholstered armchair by the window. 10
  • I spent the first night in a club deluxe room. It was spacious and had a large marble bathroom, but I won't focus too much on it, as I moved into my suite early the next morning. 7
  • The deluxe guest room offers spectacular city views with thirty eight square metres of space. 4

  • The hotel's prime location gives you easy access to Shanghai's most iconic landmarks, cultural attractions, and fantastic shopping. On camera10:18
  • The location was perfect and the hotel itself extremely comfortable and luxurious. 11
  • Furthermore, the notable Jing'An Temple and its eponymous metro station (on Lines 2 and 7) sit 10 minutes away on foot, providing easy access to the rest of the city. 10
  • Conveniently located on the famous Nanjing Road, The Portman Ritz-Carlton forms part of the Shanghai Center, a commercial, shopping and dining complex. 9
  • Please see our Privacy Policy for more information. This conveniently located contemporary tower has large rooms with Chinese artwork, onyx panels, and fresh flowers. 8
  • The Ritz-Carlton's downtown location off one of the city's busiest shopping streets, Nanjing XI Road, makes this hotel a top choice that is still within steps of local parks, neighborhoods and a nearby metro shop. 20
  • The Portman Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai offers a club-level experience with spacious suites and a prime location in the Jingan district. 7

  • Chef Alan Wong brings his masterful Hawaiian cuisine to Shanghai with his eponymous restaurant. Opt for the 5-course Taste of Hawaii pre-fix menu or choose from a wide array of a la carte options and a raw bar. 20
  • Unfortunately, the quality of the food was dubious at best. The dumplings tasted stale and not nearly as good as the ones you could find on the street. The hot options were equally unimpressive, so most days I just had fruit and yogurt. 7
  • Best location,great service, delicious food 11
  • When I went to the club lounge for breakfast, I was greeted by name, shown to the same seat by the window I'd been favoring my whole stay, and proactively offered coffee. 7
  • Breakfast is served buffet style with a good mix of Western and Eastern dishes such as bacon, eggs made to order, dumplings and noodles. 9
  • The Pudong Ritz-Carlton Shanghai is stronger for destination dining and nightlife. 14
  • The one redeeming feature of breakfast was the fridge full of fresh fruit juices. When the staff bothered to restock it, I really enjoyed the fresh grapefruit juice. 7
  • The breakfast spread was certainly large, spanning all three areas of the club. 7
  • Booked a breakfast rate - breakfast in restaurant was good - good omelet and hashbrowns, good pancakes and waffles, even had a chocolate fountain (didn’t partake), good gelato, no issue with being offered a coffee (take that, St Regis) 6
  • The service at this hotel was a mixed bag at best. Strike one was not being checked-in in the club lounge despite having paid extra for that benefit. Strike two was the poor quality control that resulted in the subpar food that was served at breakfast. Strike three was the complete lack of food during one of the signature meal services. 7
Service19 mentions · 2 filmed
  • Most of the staff I encountered during my stay were courteous and very professional, in particular I was rather impressed by one of the doormen who bid me farewell by name as he called a taxi for me. 9
  • Despite acknowledging my club-level booking and handing me a welcome letter listing club check-in as one of my benefits, the agent checked me in in the crowded downstairs lobby. There was also no check-in line for elite members, so I ended up waiting about 10 minutes to be helped. 7
  • My suite was beautiful and the staff receptive and responsive to my complaints, but I'm not sure I could justify returning to a hotel with such inconsistent service. 7
  • At the desk, I was greeted once again by a friendly agent who spoke great English. 10
  • The Ritz houses one of Shanghai's top concierges. From hard-to-get tickets to customized tours, the concierge team is famous for going that extra mile (sometimes literally) to meet your needs. 20
  • Best location,great service, delicious food 11
  • The attentive and friendly staff made sure that my experience at the lounge was nothing short of perfect. The staff members were not only attentive but also engaging with guests. 12
  • Staff was very helpful. Very courteous! 11
  • From the moment I walked in and was greeted by the doorman, to the seamless check-in process in the club lounge, every detail was attended to with utmost care. 12
  • However, despite my otherwise excellent experience, I did have some issues with the concierge service. For one, he struggled to assist me in finding and booking train tickets to Hangzhou for the next day. I was also misinformed with regards to the location of the nearest train stations to the hotel. 10
  • Furthermore, everybody I encountered were exteremely friendly and welcoming. Although some staff members did not speak English, the language barrier did little to stop them from being warm and proactively assisting me with my needs. 10
  • The Shanghai hotel's staff (referred to as "ladies" and "gentlemen") makes all the difference. They genuinely care about your stay. 20
  • I loved the cute towel Panda (complete with a fake twig) that housekeeping left on our last day! 9
  • As such, considering its comfortable rooms, friendly service, exceptional location, and excellent pricing, I definitely wouldn't think twice about staying here again. 10
  • Offered late checkout proactively - they put 3 for my 5 PM flight (I left much earlier than that) 6
  • The staff were exceptionally helpful. 11
  • The Portman Ritz Carlton offers a truly exceptional experience with impeccable service and elegant accommodations. On camera10:26

Bed & Sleep3 mentions
  • A huge king bed, with luxurious linen, was the centerpiece of the bedroom. 9
  • Bed was generally comfortable - slightly firm mattress, covers of decent plushness for Shanghai, plush pillows 6
  • Loved the bed!! Best sleep ever! 11
Bathroom7 mentions
  • Opposite were the shower and toilet. While both were spacious, I found the shower to be poorly lit, as you can see in the picture below. Additionally, the door got stuck several times and was hard to open. 7
  • All of the stylish bathrooms are decorated in cream marble and feature glass-enclosed showers with separate bathtubs and Acqua di Parma bath products. 20
  • Located by the entryway is the marble bathroom, which has really stood the test of time. Well-lit and clad with multiple mirrors, the bathroom feels spacious and inviting - certainly a welcome sight compared to the open concept and overly minimalist bathrooms all too common at many new hotels nowadays. 10
  • And the bathroom - very big, nice marble design and layout! 11
  • Connected to the bedroom was the gorgeous marble bathroom. Inside was a double sink vanity, a separated toilet, a spacious shower as well as an over-sized bath tub. 9
  • Shower pressure was decent / good 6
  • The water pressure and temperature were excellent from any of these fixtures. 10
Value3 mentions
  • As such, considering its comfortable rooms, friendly service, exceptional location, and excellent pricing, I definitely wouldn't think twice about staying here again. 10
  • Portman offers value through space, convenience, and location practicality, especially for longer stays. 14
  • For my two-night stay, I paid a nightly rate of CNY 1385 (~ USD 192 or GBP 145) that booked me into an entry-level Deluxe Room. This seemed reasonable enough, considering other hotels in the area, like the Jing An Shangri-La and The PuLi, were charging rates over 50 per cent higher. 10
View1 mention
  • Pudong offers the best skyline views 14
Noise1 mention
  • Additionally, the elevator required you to swipe your keycard to access the club level and club-level rooms. Only one side of the elevator had a card reader, so people were constantly bumping into each other trying to get to their floors, and none of the keycards seemed to work more than half of the time. 7
