The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Situated near the port and convention center, this hotel serves as a practical base for cruise passengers and event attendees. Guests regularly praise the comfortable beds, helpful staff, and the relaxing infinity pool deck. However, hallways can be noisy due to slamming doors, elevator traffic, and late-night partygoers, alongside daytime construction nearby. Check-in lines can run slow and guests often dislike the early 10 AM checkout time. 21125

Service10 mentions · 2 filmed
  • The hotel itself is nice and the staff is friendly, though for the most part incompetent. 3
  • Best for convention attendees, less so for anyone needing a swift check-in. 5
  • Nice rooms, nice staff, enjoyed the infinity pool. 22
  • the 10 am checkout policy of that hotel is sad. 2
  • The Sheraton staff is nice. I love the pool. 9
  • The staff is welcoming and thanks us for choosing Puerto Rico as a vacation destination. 19
  • Depending on what type of tour you want to do - I would recommend booking yourself to save some money. We used the concierge to get a rental car and think we probably would have gotten it cheaper ourselves somewhere. 2
  • there's hangers iron ironing board safe some drawers so it's a nice large safe so you can fit a fulls siiz laptop in there On camera151:48
  • The casino looked nice although we did not play in there, and the pool area at the top floor is open roofed and has beautiful views of the pier and surrounding area. 2
  • in here we have a wardrobe which is nice if you are staying longer than one night you can unpack put all of your things away in here On camera151:39

  • I managed to peek inside one of the suites while scoping out a viewpoint on the hotel's top floor and can confirm that it looked suitably splurge-worthy, with rich wood paneling behind the bed and a corner balcony that showcased nearly panoramic views of the surrounding city. 16
  • As a SPG Gold Member, thanks to the status from my American Express Platinum Card, I was upgraded to a deluxe room upon check-in, which means that it offered a nice balcony. 22
  • For Marriott Bonvoy members, my platinum status got us upgraded to a rather comfortable suite but sadly did not have a great view. 6
  • A spacious work desk has more power outlets, excellent lighting and a refrigerator. 24
  • The room is really nice for our children, especially because of its size! 19
  • As a platinum member, I was upgraded to a suite on both of my stays which had ample space and the views mentioned above (one stay with the castle and city, one with the port). 6
  • Unfortunately, while the hotel is rather nice as a whole, outside of the lobby it also feels dated. Think older style room decor, low functioning air conditioning that never quite hit its target, and island-style shutter blinds that let in a ton of light in the morning. 6
  • and I believe no no under bed storage so that kind of stinks but you can put it under there On camera153:28
  • The hotel's main attraction is it's central spot to all of old San Juan. Our room was nice with a small partial view of El Morro showing us how close to it we really were. 2
  • our room was located on the 10th floor and had one king bed amenities include free Wi-Fi large flat screen TVs mini fridge coffee maker a writing desk a chair and small table one nightstand a standup shower a spacious sink a wardrobe with an iron and ironing board and a safe and also so some amazing views On camera40:30
  • Especially clever is the armchair by the window, which swivels to face the TV or outside, which means guests don't need to push around heavy furniture to suit their needs. 24
  • My room was simple, yet stylish with natural wood-toned design elements and relaxing warm-colored lighting. The room had everything I needed for a safe and pleasant stay. 20
Food15 mentions · 1 filmed
  • The continental breakfast for Plats had enough selection for me that I didn't bother with full buffet. 21
  • Chef Eric Sánchez clearly understands how to blend the flavor profiles that inspired the restaurant's menu, and I enjoyed every dish I sampled. 16
  • Reliable choice near the Convention Center with solid restaurants and contemporary design throughout. 1
  • Upgrading the suite has greatly improved our experience, especially when accompanied by our children. We regret however the 15 US$ per day for stays paid with points and a really standard breakfast. 19
  • To top things off, I had a delicious cup of coffee with my meal and snagged a few bananas to go. 20
  • While I was unable to try much of the food at the hotel, I did have the chance to sample the buffet breakfast at Choices restaurant. At $36.38, the price was a bit steep, but I found the selection to be good with plenty of healthy options like oatmeal, fresh fruit and yogurt alongside breakfast staples like eggs, bacon and toast. 20
  • Very few restaurants nearby, hotel food pricey. Need a cab to get to Old San Juan. 22
  • The buffet offers the typical items you'd expect at a complimentary hotel breakfast buffet, but it's the smoked salmon, as well as the fresh and candied fruits at the yogurt station, that make the buffet a better post-workout option and worth paying for. 14
  • On the last morning, I treated myself to a savory well-made breakfast pita with spinach, cheese, crispy sauteed potatoes and scrambled eggs. 18
  • The lobby lounge is home to a sushi bar preparing freshly made rolls. There's also a menu of Puerto Rican dishes, which like the other restaurants, come from the talented female chef. 24
  • we had an excellent breakfast downstairs at choices fantastic fantastic we didn't do the buffet we did alak cart but it was very very good On camera155:55
  • I couldn't take many pictures... the span class="term" data-original-term="c2Fsb24=">salon>/span> being crowded! The level of food offered is rather summary. 19
  • Was disappointed with the food at the Metropal restaurant. Did not compare to other PR restaurants we have visited in the past. 8
  • Nearby restaurants are either chains or non-noteworthy local options. 12
  • Decent dining and drink options (though somewhat limited) 12

  • the Sheridan Puerto Rico Resort and Casino is a familyfriendly urban Resort that's ideally located across from the convention center and steps away from the T-Mobile District On camera40:00
  • We almost always use this hotel as a base when in San Juan for the very reason that it's away from OSJ, unless that's all you want to see I think this is a better location provided you have a car as 2 highways are within 2 blocks of the hotel to take you almost any direction you want to go on the island. 3
  • I like the Sheraton's location because you can walk to Distrito T-Mobile, but I'd much rather walk by the beach and cab it to Distrito. 7
  • We used the concierge to get a rental car and think we probably would have gotten it cheaper ourselves somewhere. We stayed there when it was the Wyndham. Love the location. 2
  • The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle to nearby Condado Beach and historic Old San Juan, making it easy to explore the island's rich history and stunning coastline. 16
  • Whether they're in town on business or pleasure, the conveniently located property makes it easy for guests to experience the many different sides of this colorful destination from parties and nightlife to sightseeing and professional events. 20
  • I liked the Sheraton for it's central location and also that our ship was leaving from the pier across the street. 2
  • We are staying here now and I think it's a great hotel. Very close to everything. We haven't needed a cab once. Lots to do and see, plenty of authentic restaurants and tons of shops and sightseeing opportunities very close by. 8
  • Sorry I have to disagree...there is nothing at the hotel to keep us busy...we book it for being a good location to Old Town. 8
  • we actually stayed here one night before our cruise with Norwegian Viva from San Juan Puerto Rico and this is the perfect location to stay if you're cruising out of San Juan particularly out of the panamerican port On camera150:06
  • Sheraton is a better pick for you. It's in the TMobile district and easier logistics for nightlife. Hilton is more family oriented. 23
  • Last time I was in Puerto Rico I stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino, which is a property in a great location with great Platinum recognition, though the hotel could... 3
  • The location is great if you want to visit the old town, the forts, etc. The old town is quite lively at nights on the weekends and great for walking around. 21
  • At its core, the Sheraton Old San Juan stands out as one of, if not the only, branded hotel located in the historical city center. Its proximity to highlights like Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo de San Cristobal, Barrachina and other popular San Juan bars and restaurants, and the cruise port is unrivaled. 6
  • For Old San Juan, the Sheraton has a prime location, that's for certain. 2
  • The non-smoking Sheraton Puerto Rico Resort & Casino is also perfectly located approximately 5 minutes by foot from Parque Centro de Convenciones. 5
  • Guests who are looking for a beach hotel will want to look for options in Condado and Isla Verde, instead. It is a safe (if boring) part of town with few attractions within walking distance. 12
  • Stayed there about 2 years ago. Great hotel, but wasn't a huge fan of the location! 21
  • The first thing I noted about the Sheraton's redesign was that it brought a restful, island-inspired aesthetic to its 503 guestrooms. Natural hues and textures create a soothing atmosphere that's enhanced by soft blues and warm wood tones that reflect the nearby coastline. 16
  • Can't beat the location though. Right in the middle of everything. 21

  • Normally I don't like hotel meals because they are often mediocre and overpriced, but in this case the carne asada tacos and margarita I ordered were tasty and full-flavored. But the price still wasn't "right." 18
  • The hotel, which offers resort-like resort amenities, has more competitive rates than those on the water, but delivers many of the same perks. 24
  • We were very hungry at this point, so we just settled on the hotel's Chicago Burger Co. set outdoors with umbrellas. Three burgers, one fish sandwich, four sodas and $75 later, we felt we had paid too much. 2
  • Like you said, I found the pool to be a little below average and the hotel far away from everything but I definitely didn't have any qualms with the quality of the room for the price. 3
  • Even though the stay is paid in full with points and a free night certificate, I give my Marriott BonvoyTM American ExpressMD Card as a deposit... and to pay the US$15 per night fee to use points (a truly uncommon practice, which could be likened to a resort fee in disguise). 19
  • If you want to stay in San Juan, for a reasonable price in a New very modern Hotel, this is the place! 9

  • Overall the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino was a nice property and I would return here again if in the area. It's a great value as a Category 3, so I'd recommend using SPG points if staying here, but note the hotel adds on a $15 fee per night. 22
  • On a weekend with an inflated room rate, this increased our bill by $50/night despite not using any of the facilities and a weeknight with a slightly cheaper price point increased the bill by $25/night. Add on tax (~11% on my visit) and you can see how the fees rise fast. Ouch. 6
  • Personally, we would trend slightly to the convention center property for its amenities and easier access to the restaurants in Condado/Miramar and would take the shuttle and Uber fees as the tradeoff insofar as the prices were similar or slightly cheaper to cover the difference. 6
  • While I was unable to try much of the food at the hotel, I did have the chance to sample the buffet breakfast at Choices restaurant. • Daytime construction of new buildings in the area might be an issue for those sensitive to noise -- same goes for the occasional entertainment and music coming from the convention center -- though the area is usually pretty quiet. 12
  • Trying to get an elevator was also difficult because guests not already in the lobby were trying to come down to check out. 2
  • AC is quiet like that's another thing like you don't ever really think about it until you're in a hotel room but at night especially if you're a light sleeper like some AC systems are really loud this one was quiet On camera154:58
  • The hotel was clean and nice but with out a doubt the loudest hotel any of us had stayed in. People were partying all night, slamming doors , yelling. The elevators were noisy and we could hear the ice machine all night. 21
