Room15 mentions · 3 filmed
  • The air conditioner in the room worked very well, even though there's not a thermostat, although it did rattle the bed a little bit. On camera152:40
  • I was upgraded to a Junior Suite, which was very nice. 9
  • then, I went back to my room and sat in a really awesome chaise lounge chair that was so comfortable, I kind of tucked into the corner and read for a while. 17
  • the room was clean with Dove shampoo, body wash, hand soap and body lotion. That was a great surprise since Hilton often doesn't have hand soap. 17
  • The lobby was clean, the room was clean with Dove shampoo, body wash, hand soap and body lotion. 17
  • Nothing in the decor is particularly surprising, but the effect is pleasant. 16
  • Here's the closet where there is an iron and an ironing board as well as quite a few hangers. And these are actual hangers, not the ones with the little teeny hook hangs and extra bedding down there. Very nice. 15
  • And once you get to your room, you are in for a real treat. There are 99 well-appointed rooms, and they are all designed to be super cozy and comfortable. It is exactly the kind of place where you can just kick off your shoes, sink into the bed, and completely unwind. On camera181:02
  • Indeed, I was luckily upgraded to a very large corner room suite. Although dated, the room was very spacious and "on brand" with the typical Holiday Inn Express room decor. 8
  • I had too much stuff for the regular safety deposit box so they led me to the back room and gave me a bigger box. We ate at The Elephant & Castle (Canadian:)) and it was the same as the one here - decent pub fare. 14
  • We saw the Celebrity Infinity sail out the night before with all the lights - so nice and also woke up to the Spirit coming into the Bay - and like the other poster said - it felt like it was coming right into our room!! You CANNOT get a better view of the ships or the Bay imho.:D 14
  • The fairly spacious guest rooms have a pleasant chain-style decor, with matching, espresso-colored wood furniture that includes nightstands, dressers, and glass-topped desks with black-leather office chairs. 16
  • We are VERY FUSSY about our hotels and I can assure you that we were pleasantly surprised. We had booked a Bayview room and we were given a very high one on the corner so we actually had two views - it being a corner room. It was lovely, clean and very modern and quite roomy too. 14
  • A room facing the Bay is fantastic, especially if you are up early enough to see you ship come in to port. 14
  • Down here is room to put the suitcases. We have USB ports located on both sides of the bed here on this side as well as more over here by the TV. So, plenty of places to plug in your devices both with electrical outlets and with USB ports. On camera151:29

  • Being a Holiday Inn Express, all guests get a complimentary breakfast. It was nothing to write home about with the usual eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, juice, bread, yogurt and fruits. 6
  • it keeps the glare off the tv. also, those cinnamon rolls at breakfast. ugh so good! i'm traveling to KC this week for work and hoping i can find a HIX to treat myself lol 17
  • Rooms are typical Hampton Inn and seemed to be fresh and new. There is a complimentary breakfast offered, which was also typical. Nothing special but certainly adequate. 14
  • The breakfast was good, consistent with what you'd expect from Holiday in Express with an ample selection of hot items, two choices for sausage, and more than enough seating. On camera158:50
  • There is that delicious breakfast waiting for you in the morning. There is nothing quite like starting your day with a good meal before heading out to explore the coast or hit your business appointments. On camera181:28
  • Breakfast in the morning was good, was it amazing? No, pretty standard, but the coffee was excellent, and they had Chiobani yogurt which I love. 17
  • it keeps the glare off the tv. also, those cinnamon rolls at breakfast. ugh so good! 17
  • There's one in Memphis we love so much that we keep going back. The breakfast lady is amazing and has offered us her family & friends discount. 17
  • Breakfast is decent enough for an included hotel breakfast. 17
  • Now, let's talk about the perks because they are fantastic. You get free Wi-Fi, which is a total lifesaver for uploading all your travel photos or catching up on work, and of course, there is that delicious breakfast waiting for you in the morning. 18
  • And who doesn't love a complimentary Holiday Inn Express breakfast? 8
  • What I didn't like was the small breakfast service area. Oh, and the fact that there weren't any knives available. On camera159:38
  • I've stayed in multiple Holiday Inn Express hotels. I've never had a complaint. The free breakfast is actually quite good. 17
Noise6 mentions
  • The hotel is quiet, although the walls are thin and some muffled converations can be heard through the walls. Why hotels don't have better soundproofing between rooms, I'll never understand. 9
  • Noise was not an issue at all. 14
  • The hotel is 2 blocks from I-5. Traffic noise and train noise was not noticeable. 9
  • Traffic noise and train noise was not noticeable. It's an older hotel with some usual wear and tear. 9
  • Ugh! Too close to the tracks. Those train whistles were loud, even with earplugs! 14
  • Rooms facing I-5 pick up some traffic noise. Some suites have patios, but most rooms overlook the pool, parking lot, or highway. 16
Service14 mentions
  • i am a huge fan of HIX. especially the new ones with the headboard backlighting, that's so nice. it keeps the glare off the tv. 17
  • I was warmly greeted at the front desk by the late-night staff. 8
  • in the meantime the hotel called and told me my room was ready for my arrival and this was at 11:30AM. It was really nice, and they were nice. I arrived check in was great. 17
  • Noise was not an issue at all. We had some of the best service we have ever had at any hotel (and we usually only stay at 5 star types). 14
  • Let me first commend the Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown on their service. It was great. If all IHG hotels treated their elites like this, IHG would be the hotel brand to beat. 8
  • Staff were all very friendly and hotel was clean 14
  • The hotel offers clean rooms with comfortable beds, a breakfast buffet, and helpful staff. 10
  • Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m. and our friendly, professional staff is always on hand to assist with any special requests or local recommendations to ensure your stay is seamless. 7
  • Responsive front desk service. Call you a few days before your stay to inquire about special requests 6
  • If you're looking for something especially nice then maybe something else is your best bet. You can't beat the close-ness to the terminal. :) 14
  • I also love how relaxed the morning routine is here. You have until 11:00 a.m. to check out, which means you don't have to rush. 18
  • Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m. and the staff here are absolutely wonderful. They are so professional and friendly, making sure you feel right at home the second you walk through those doors. 18
  • Being right on the port and walking around the area the evening before and the morning of our sailing was a real treat. They have a shuttle from the airport and they even insisted on driving us across the street to the ship with our bags - a nice touch but really unnecessary! 14
  • Check-in was quick and we were offered the customary chips and water for platinum status. 6

  • As far as the overall value, I found this hotel to be really good value for the money, or in this case, the points. On camera1511:18
  • Consistently cheapest rates in San Diego area among IHG brand hotels. 6
  • The hotel's restaurant/pub wasn't too bad either and a lot less expensive than Ruth Chris or Anthony's. 14
  • This time we will wait for a front-facing room so we don't have that problem. We have found that the Hampton Inn's rates are a lot lower than rates at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. 14
Location7 mentions
  • Location is great even though the buildings have been there for years they have upgraded the rooms on occasion. 14
  • We ate at The Elephant & Castle (Canadian:)) and it was the same as the one here - decent pub fare. We also walked to a lot of places from there - good location. 14
  • Yes, the venue is located within walking distance of the US-Mexico border, making it convenient for travelers crossing into Tijuana. 10
  • Located in a commercial area with no dining options within walking distance 6
  • Scan it and let's dive in. We're talking about the Holiday and Express Downtown San Diego. And let me tell you, this place is fantastic. It's perfectly located, super comfy, and just a dream for both vacationers and business travelers. 13
  • The location itself was exactly like the description says, a prime location to downtown attractions and nightlife (however, the entire downtown San Diego area can be a little seedy [especially at night], so be aware). I was amazed at how close the hotel was to the San Diego Zoo. 8
  • The mid-range Holiday Inn Express San Diego Airport-Old Town is conveniently located off I-5 and I-8, within a 10-minute drive of the airport, the downtown convention center, and Gaslight Quarter. 16
