The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa is a sprawling Tucson property set against the Santa Catalina Mountains. Guests appreciate the mountain vistas, fresh restaurant dining, and friendly golf cart drivers and poolside staff. However, rooms draw criticism for musty odors, mosquitoes, and generic furnishings that need an update. Visitors also note that a daily resort fee is automatically added to the bill regardless of amenity use. 13752

  • Everything about your hotel is just fantastic, but I wanted to let you know that we found Nick to be especially fun and helpful. He brought our lunch to us poolside and was so full of enthusiasm and eagerness that I had to take note of his name and let you know how great he is. 2
  • Thank you all for any advice you have to share! Just got back from Dove Mountain in late March. Doesn't matter the distance. I'd go again in a heartbeat. 10/10. Service, food, and atmosphere were incredible. 3

  • The service was more than great. 7
  • The wait staff was very friendly and made sure my wife was treated very well. 7

  • Once we checked in we went back outside to get our bags. We met Paul, one of the porters. He was very nice and offered to take us to our room. 7
  • Service, food, and atmosphere were incredible. My wife was begging to stay another night. 3
  • He brought our lunch to us poolside and was so full of enthusiasm and eagerness that I had to take note of his name and let you know how great he is. Also, the cleaning staff literally read our minds and gave us more of everything without asking. 2
Food7 mentions
  • Azul restaurant food was good, but the service was so-so. 7
  • The food served was fresh and really good quality. 7
  • oying the some Latin flavor in each brunch buffet (chilaquiles were a hit). 9
  • Thank you all for any advice you have to share! Just got back from Dove Mountain in late March. Doesn't matter the distance. I'd go again in a heartbeat. 10/10. Service, food, and atmosphere were incredible. 3
  • I left the Chef's Dinner fat and happy with another glass of red wine in my hand which I didn't need but wanted. That was one the most filling and satisfying meals I've had in a long time. Usually there is something off - too much salt or not enough, too tough of meat, etc. but literally I could not find one flaw in the meal and that's coming from a Virgo so you know it's good. 9
  • Contigo restaurant food was very good with nice bartender who made amazing jalapeno margaritas. 7
  • Service, food, and atmosphere were incredible. My wife was begging to stay another night. 3
Value1 mention

Room8 mentions
  • First visit and I was not impressed. Our room smelled musty and we had no comforters on the bed -- we really weren't sure the rom was even cleaned. 7
  • Astonishing view of the Catalina Mountains from our room 2
  • Each room is nicely anchored at a cool 65 degrees and my room had a great balcony space overlooking the mountains and the pools. 9
  • Decor is minimalist, with a neutral color scheme that features earthy desert colors and generic wood furnishings that could use an update. 5
  • The view from my room was great. 7
  • The only pluses were the food and cocktails, the golf cart drivers who were friendly and we at least had a room with a view of the Catalinas. 7
  • We called front desk about it, they came and dropped off comforters (but didn't even put them on -- we had to do that!). We asked if they had any disinfectant spray or wipes we could at least use and were told he'd check - but he never came back or called our room or anything. 7
  • The only downside I could say was that we found quite a few mosquitoes in our room and did get bit a few times. 7
Location2 mentions
  • The Leo Kent downtown is a cool property, lots of great restaurants and access to our silly streetcar to go to 4th Avenue merchants or the Mercado San Augustin and MSA Annex (always a recommendation). 3
  • Beyond the resort, there is little within easy walking distance. 5
