Read it your way

Situated directly in front of Seoul City Hall Plaza, this hotel provides premier views and direct indoor access to the City Hall subway station. Guests consistently appreciate the comfortable king beds, Molton Brown bath products, and helpful concierge desk. However, reviewers frequently complain that rooms and bathrooms are surprisingly small and dated for a five-star property. Additionally, street-facing rooms often catch traffic and noise from outdoor plaza events. 191016

  • I only tried thier all-day dining buffet/restaurant (the Seven Square), but it was excellent if not a bit pricy (as all hotel restaurants usually are). 5
  • However what was totally unexpected was the quality of the food - a total failure. I do not know in which country are chicken nuggets, cheese sticks and just plain pasta covered in tomato sauce seen as a quality meal fit for an executive lounge. 21
  • The first one was on The Seven Square located on the 2nd floor. This was the common area for paid buffet breakfast, and this breakfast was part of the rate which I had paid. The spread was good and some of the items were uniquely Korean in the form of kimchi and cold noodles. 4
  • The club lounge was a nice touch for Marriott Bonvoy members with high status, yet the quality of the food left something to be desired. 25
  • Room service was delicious and worth noting. 16
  • Designed by Andre Fu, the restaurant has an elegant European inspired interior with private wine rooms, marble finishes, and chef's tables. On camera613:25
  • 14th floor room had a view of the palace, ice rink, and city hall. Chinese restaurant Tao Yuan serves excellent food. 9
  • They actually had a lot of good options for dinner and breakfast, so that's a plus. They do have a few restaurants here on property, but none of them felt extremely crazy. Wow. Except maybe the Japanese one. On camera621:15
  • Josun Palace breakfast was one of the best in the world. Absolutely incredible. 12
  • Breakfast: I had this in the lounge which for me was a good selection of Asian and Western choices. 21
  • The bed was comfy and breakfast was YUMMY. The hotel had a central position. 2
  • Between the 2 stations was a cappuccino machine. We would have breakfast in the lounge every morning. It was quite a good selection. In the evening, the selection of food was enough to make a meal. 22
  • The lounge and the breakfast at the Westin were very good, and we got upgraded to a suite. 23
  • Stayed at the Josun Palace. The hard product is top notch and the breakfast is incredible. 12
  • Stayed at the Plaza last April, the breakfast in the lounge was great including a Chef omelette station and the location is amazing. 12
  • The breakfast in the lounge for platinum and up members was one of the best I've ever had. 23
  • (I like the lounge food in JW Marriott but admittedly it was nothing crazy) 12
  • The staff was amazing, the room was phenomenal, and the food was pretty good. 5
  • The club lounge was a nice option to enjoy complimentary food and alcoholic beverages, but I'm not sure if the value would appeal to those without status as the quality of the food was mediocre. 25
  • Zest buffet is much more expansive and nicer than the Terrace at Grand Hyatt. 11
  • They offer an impressive wine seller with over 1,000 labels curated by in-house sama leaders. The ambiance is ideal for special dinners or business meals. On camera613:46
  • Next up, we have Tamarara. This elegant Japanese restaurant offers a quiet, zen-like atmosphere and specializes multi-course dining. On camera614:38
  • The Westin Josun breakfast is quite nice. 12
  • Stayed at the Josun Palace. The hard product is top notch and the breakfast is incredible. The location however is awful. 12
  • The Seven Square Buffet offers delicious Mediterranean-style eats and Tao Yuen is worth a visit if you are a fan of Peking duck or healthy Chinese cuisine (Yes, such oil-free dishes exists). 17
  • I chose JW Dongdaemun, they don't offer free breakfast in the main buffet area, only the executive lounge. 12
  • The buffet at the hotel restaurant was pretty nice and had great options last time I was there, and would prefer that over the lounge which I believe will have fewer options. 8
  • The food is better at The Plaza. But the rooms are better at The Westin, generally speaking. 21

  • Here we have the mini bar area. We have a nice espresso machine which is premium. That should be at every luxury property with Merit which is great. On camera64:43
  • I stayed in the Plaza Suite, with a corner view of the Seoul cityscape, royal palace and City Hall. I also had a front-row view of the Pride Festival on my final day in Seoul. This room with a view definitely delivered a special taste of Korean tradition and culture. 16
  • The Plaza Seoul decor was a bit much with the pink wallpaper and the bed in the middle of the room with two large lamps, which reminded me of the Pixar animation character. 23
  • The Plaza Seoul decor was a bit much with the pink wallpaper and the bed in the middle of the room with two large lamps, which reminded me of the Pixar animation character. We had a great view of the Blue House and the Seoul Plaza/City Hall. 23

  • beside it is an elegantly decorated living area adorned by statement Furniture pieces this is my favorite spot in the suite On camera270:28
  • While there were light switches for the hallway and bathroom, we had a hard time finding the switches for the lights in the rest of the room. After about a half hour of us searching the room, we finally realized that the remaining controls were actually on the phone. 22
  • The corner PH Suite, even though renovated, pales in comparison to the FS Palace View ones. As does pretty much every other aspect of the PH as well. 11
  • Other than the location, the room I booked (deluxe twin) was wonderful. 10
  • The suite includes a living room and bedroom, but I found them to be on the smaller side for a five-star suite. That being said, the bed was incredibly comfortable, featuring a high-quality mattress, a detail that truly sets luxury hotels apart. 1
  • But anyway, really nice, spacious room. I'm sure I'm going to sleep great tonight. On camera67:07
  • The suite includes a living room and bedroom, but I found them to be on the smaller side for a five-star suite. 1
  • Upon entering my room, my immediate impression of the bedroom was that it was tiny, but the hotel did everything it could to maximize its limited space. 25
  • I found the spacious desk bordering the length of the window particularly useful, as I always have heaps of magazines and business documents with me on international trips. 16
  • TV channel options were good and the bed was very comfortable. 21
  • Room was very beautifully decorated - a modern twist to the room which was functional (might not be a taste for all). 21
  • d the city. Our tiny room had interesting artistic touches, but it was difficult to appreciate as they came at the cost of practicality and limited square footage. The limited space would make the room challenging to share with another person. 25
  • The suite includes a comfortable king-sized bed, cozy fireplace, a large couch at the foot of the bed and a newly renovated bathroom. 16
  • lovely staff, amazing location, and decent enough lounge, but the rooms were weird. strange layout, dated. and wtf is with the porn shoot light? 23
  • I just thought you'd like to know about it though. This is a very strange room. I understand the concept. It's to look out and see the city which you can't see right now because I've got all the room lights on. But it's sort of weird to be facing backwards. On camera142:40
  • the room also offers a bird's eye view of the city from each vast window a On camera270:51
  • Once inside, I didn't really know what to think other than the fact that it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. A "suite" in Asia must mean something different than it does in the US, as I had visions in my mind of two large rooms and a bathroom. What this was, in fact, was two small rooms and a really big bathroom. 5
  • The rooms were so dated and the layout in many of them was super awkward. 23
  • Hallways are very poorly lit. Clothes closet/safety box ante room very poorly lit. 21
  • Thank god! The rooms were so dated and the layout in many of them was super awkward. 23
  • The staff was amazing, the room was phenomenal, and the food was pretty good. 5
  • Because my Suite Night Award was rejected, I stayed in one of the hotel's standard rooms, which was tiny. It was challenging to share the regular room with another person, especially because we each had a large piece of luggage. 25
  • The furniture was quite interesting as well. Very unique, and quite stylish. 5
  • The walk-in rain shower was delightful. It was also convenient to have a Nespresso coffee machine in the room since I was waking up early and needed a kick of caffeine to fight jet lag. 16
  • Now here we are heading into the room itself. The room is very nice. It's very spacious. On camera65:02

  • Westin Josun is my favorite for location, but the rooms are very outdated. 12
  • Located right at City Hall Square and across from Deoksugung Palace and Gwanghwamun Square, The Plaza Hotel Seoul affords guests a central spot to explore all that the vibrant city has to offer. 25
  • If you value the hotel's strategic location and the convenience it brings, I would recommend The Plaza Hotel Seoul, but I strongly suggest booking a bigger room than the standard room. 25
  • JW Dongdaemun also has a fairly decent location-easy to get to Jongro-but the rooms aren't quite as nice as JW Gangnam. 12
  • Location wise, I think my favorite is the Westin Josun due to it's location, easy line access to major tourist spots. 12
  • Why not the Westin Josun Seoul or Le Meridian Myeongdong in your list? They both are in a great location for tourism, and have club lounges 12
  • For location: The Plaza > JW DDM > JW Marriott >>>> Josun Palace Josun Palace is in a terrible spot for tourists. 12
  • Plaza could not be a better location. Trust, Seoul is a big enough city as it is and you don't went to spend all your time on transit by staying south of the river 12
  • Westin is a fantastic location, everything is walkable and service was really great. 12
  • otherwise like you're not like downtown in the city here. You're a little bit farther away. You're not like in the skyline kind of like at the Park Hyatt and the Joe Sun Luxury Collection and the Conrad. You're a little bit off. So, I feel like the location isn't as good. On camera620:19
  • The Plaza hotel is very well located for tourists. A 5 minute walk out the front door takes you to the City Hall subway station; Deoksugung palace and from there, about another 20-25 minute walk to Gyeongbokgung palace. 10
  • Stayed at the Josun Palace. The hard product is top notch and the breakfast is incredible. The location however is awful. Inconvenient, far from the subway, and there's nothing in the neighborhood. 12
  • I would actually give this hotel a 3.5 rating based on my experience. However from location point of view, this would still be a good choice in Seoul for a luxury hotel. 21
  • Plaza is a good location but it just feels shittier than the Josun. We HATE the JW Seoul with a burning passion. 12
  • lovely staff, amazing location, and decent enough lounge, but the rooms were weird. strange layout, dated. and wtf is with the porn shoot light? 23
  • Overall, we really enjoyed staying at The Plaza. There were a ton of shops and restaurants in the area, and the nearby subway station made it easy to get to other parts of the city. 22
  • The Seoul hotel has a prime location 1.7 miles from Namsan Park, while shopping venues like Dongdaemun Design Plaza are 1.8 miles away. 9
  • Location wise, either the Plaza or JW dondaemun are best for tourism. I wouldn't consider the other three hotels unless you had reason to be south of the river. 12
  • JW Dongdaemun is second place for us; we love the hotel but the location isn't as good. 12
  • The Plaza Seoul, Autograph Collection is one of the most centrally located hotels in Seoul, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. With Myeong-dong, Cheonggyecheon, Namsan, Gwanghwamun, and Deoksugung Palace all within walking distance, the hotel's location is unbeatable. 1
  • The location of the hotel is perfect for business travelers and first-time visitors. With bus and subway lines right by the hotel, you can go anywhere in Seoul with ease. 25
  • Location-wise, both are excellent. If your trip is next week, I probably wouldn't switch unless you specifically prefer the more classic feel of the Westin Josun. 23
  • I loved my stay at the Plaza! Perfect location, attached KSpa, great service, and a bus from ICN dropped off right out front. 23
  • I recommend staying at the Hotel Skypark Kingstown Dongdaemun, a decent hotel in a convenient location. 26
  • JW Marriott location actually isn't bad if you consider the F&B options foot steps away and the fact that it's on top of two subway lines. More central than most think. 12
  • The breakfast in the lounge for platinum and up members was one of the best I've ever had. Its central location and connection to the subway line was super convenient. 23
  • JW Marriott location actually isn't bad if you consider the F&B options foot steps away and the fact that it's on top of two subway lines. 12
  • Plaza is a good location but it just feels shittier than the Josun. 12
  • Located right in front of Seoul City hall and square, it is very well located especially for first time tourist and even repeat visitor to Seoul. 21
  • JW Seoul is actually my favorite property in terms of luxury/quality of stay, but the location is kind of a nuisance. 12
  • Location wise, either the Plaza or JW dondaemun are best for tourism. 12
  • Never stayed at the Josun palace because it is also in a bad location (at least for us). 12
  • Superbly located in the center of a business area, in the vicinity of Myeongdong Shopping Street, the comfortable hotel features 507 rooms. 9
  • If you are here to explore tourist attractions, the location of the FS will be much better as there are numerous palaces and more "traditional" areas north of the river. 11

Bathroom20 mentions · 6 filmed
  • The toilet is bright lit and is just ok, with a separate shower and bathtub. Nothing to shout. 4
  • Bathroom: Not very large and might even be too small when 2 are in the area. 21
  • All in all, the bathroom, rather modest in size, featured an all-white design and a modern shower setup that was tasteful in design. 25
  • Over here, we do have the whole control panel, so that's fine. It's just it is a little bit of a tight bathroom. On camera63:44
  • The toiletries in the shower were also by Frederic Malle, and since they were provided in communal bottles, there was no shortage of products for a long-term stay. 25
  • The toilet seats are lovely and heated, just how I like them on a cold chilly morning. 10
  • And most luxurious of all was that they provided us with Molton Brown toiletries! Molton Brown is a range of luxury bath and body products from the UK. Awesome! 10
  • Omigosh! Why the bathroom wall is made of clear glass? Not only can sabotage in shower but even if one were to pee.... Eeeeee...... 10
  • The rain shower was perfect after a long day out, and the water was warm and very comfortable. 10
  • A high floor room is not a true upgrade and no self respecting luxury hotel would make guests choose between a) have a shower tub combo or b) an electronic washlet. It should come standard and not even be an issue in 2024. 11
  • Wife liked the heated toilet seats. 21
  • And then the sink here, just very generic. This is nothing special. Just this could be at anyone's house, any regular Fairfield hotel. This is nothing special. They could have really cool handles, a really cool spigot, something a little bit more extravagant, but they just kind of went a little cheap with that. On camera63:57
  • For rooms, I'm going to give give a four out of five. For luxury hotel, they just do not meet the standards at all that I have. No automatic curtains. The whole front with the old doors, it just feels like those were never even renovated. They're extremely old. The sink, the lights, nothing modern, nothing super fancy, just very basic. On camera618:47
  • Very small bathroom. But that's all I need. 14
  • Moreover, the bathroom was void of privacy due to the clear glass shower walls. Because the curtain was only accessible from the bedroom, when sharing a space with another individual, guests could feel slightly uneasy. 25
  • So, that is a bit of a problem. It's just because the shower actually is pretty small. But, they did a good job with having a new rainfall shower installed here. So, that's great. I love that. On camera63:23
  • And then here's the tub. So it is it is a pretty nice spacious tub, which is nice. They have the bath salts there, which is what I look for. On camera64:23
  • Yes, I wasso happy abt the heated toilet seats! Hahahaha. I hated waking up in d morning n sitting on an ice cold seat. 10

  • The Plaza has a more distinctive personality, great views, and very friendly service, and I personally enjoy staying there a lot. 23
  • I hope it stays with Marriott. The rooms sucked. No way to sugar coat it but the lounge and the service were great. 23
  • Check in was a breeze and I took a few pictures of the club lounge before heading to the room. 4
  • Lounge staff are excellent but really needed roller skates. 21
  • Check-in for us was pretty good. We did have two rooms during this stay. They were able to make them connecting rooms, which was very nice. However, they didn't really offer any sweet upgrade, and the check-in was definitely not as special as the other luxury hotels we stayed at in Korea. On camera612:00
  • The slippers are interesting because the toe is cut off again. So your toes kind of stick out, but they are pretty thick. So I give these about a medium score. They're not the thickest and your toe sticks out. On camera62:32
  • The rooms sucked. No way to sugar coat it but the lounge and the service were great. 23
  • THE PLAZA Seoul offers unparalleled customized service for both business and leisure travelers. 16
  • I love this property; its location, concierge & guest experience team are the best in town, in my book. 11
  • Any hotel employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful. 22
  • Concierge is average at best. Their knowledge of anything which is not touristy is extremely limited. 21
  • Staff: In general, as expected all staff were friendly and helpful especially with the crazy service charges in Korea. 21
  • Upon entry, I was greeted by welcoming reception staff before indulging in complimentary food and drinks inside. 25

  • Checkin at their Club was expedited and they immediately asked about choice of PAG and provided a tourist map along with answering questions like how to get to Myeongdong (cosmetic area) using the underground as it was -11C. 21
  • I loved my stay at the Plaza! Perfect location, attached KSpa, great service, and a bus from ICN dropped off right out front. 23

  • The staff said it was no problem checking me in early (it was 1pm at that point) and they processed my information quickly - and I was once again escorted to the hotel by a staff member just like at the Hyatt Incheon. 5
  • Staff remembered my name each day at breakfast. Late checkout - proactively asked if I needed a 4PM checkout, but due to flight time only asked for 1330. 21
  • The connection to the underground mall was a life saver with the heat, and the quick dry cleaning/laundry service was incredibly useful. 23
  • The service wasn't as amazing as other executive lounges where someone's always waiting on you. It's kind of more like selfs served just because it is a large scale hotel, so this place can get pretty crowded, too. On camera615:48
  • The team here is nimble and really does go above and beyond to please guests. 11
  • Fast and efficient check in with a run down of the benefits at the lounge. 21
  • A receptionist at the futuristic front desk greeted us warmly and quickly checked us in. 25
  • The staff was amazing, the room was phenomenal, and the food was pretty good. 5
  • profkimchi • 2 taon ang nakalipas There's nothing wrong with the service. There's nothing wrong with the service. We just hate the clientele. It's very Gangnam snobby BS. 12
  • Do not go to JW Marriott Seoul Seochodong! Terrible service I would give them 1 out of 5 , after new management, it's not the same 12
  • It just seemed very straightforward, to the point, strict, not super friendly, and then you're kind of left to kind of go to the room yourself versus a lot of the other properties in Korea. On camera612:16
  • Direct access to City Hall subway station connects the lobby to the city, while rooms overlook the plaza ice rink. Professional staff manage the floor, and a bakery serves breakfast. 9
  • The only thing is the check-in definitely felt awkward being located here in the lounge. Because the property has so many guest rooms, I feel like this lobby area can get very quiet and distract from the relaxation that the lounge is supposed to bring. On camera611:29
  • Was dated and felt more 3 star sgeeum • 4 (na) araw ang nakalipas just stayed there in May. just stayed there in May. mixed reviews for me. lovely staff, amazing location, and decent enough lounge, but the rooms were weird. 23
  • lovely staff, amazing location, and decent enough lounge, but the rooms were weird. strange layout, dated. and wtf is with the porn shoot light? 23

  • I don't think the value was there compared to other nearby Marriotts such as the Westin Josun. 23
  • with its prime location and competitive price this hotel is highly recommended while staying in yongdong area On camera270:10
  • I loved this hotel for all its high tech fun and for the excellent shower and beds. But the price was super ouch! 10
  • Due to its prime location and despite the potential price difference, if we returned to Seoul we'd opt for the Plaza due to - - Easy access via Airport Express and short taxi ride (although the drivers still know the hotel only as the Plaza) 21
  • I recommend staying at the Aloft Seoul Myeongdong, a great value-for-money modern hotel. 26
  • For the price/quality paid, I would say it was slightly on the expensive side especially the size of the room and quality of the food. 21

  • We had a great view of the Blue House and the Seoul Plaza/City Hall. 23
  • Nonetheless, there was a small window that overlooked the City Hall and the seasonal ice rink at the City Plaza at least, offering a sweeping view of Gwanghwamoon Square and the City Hall. 25
  • From our suite, we had a great view of Namsan Tower and the city skyline. 1
  • Situated directly in front of Seoul City Hall Plaza, the hotel is well-known for having the best view of Seoul City Hall. Staying here means you're at the center of major city events, and the nighttime views from the hotel are absolutely stunning. 1
  • It is a great view here looking out, but it's nothing like the Joseen Palace or the Park Hayatt. Those views were just so special. So, this is a little bit of a more basic view. But regardless, at least we we do have a nice view here looking out. On camera68:19
Noise2 mentions
  • If there is one drawback, is that my room faced the City Hall square and the traffic. It can be quite noisy if they have events going on in the square which is almost everyday. 10
  • My overall impression changed as soon as I stepped off the elevator and started the walk down the dark hallway to my room. The decor was definitely...different. It actually reminded me of a nightclub without the loud music. Hmm. 5
