The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is an expansive coastal destination spanning from the bay to the Gulf of Mexico. Guests praise the spacious condos, expansive water vistas, and a wide array of dining options across the property. However, visitors frequently complain about unexpected costs like resort fees and beach lounger charges, as well as frustrating golf course conditions and worn rooms in older buildings. 6371

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Condo units in towers like Westwinds and Luau provide clean, quiet accommodations with expansive water views from private balconies. 1765
  • Dining across the property earns strong marks, ranging from breakfast buffets at Sandcastles to fresh sushi and tableside steakhouse dining. 2
  • Families appreciate kid-friendly room setups, including bunk beds and pull-out sofas, alongside secure keycode access at pool and beach gates. 1

The catch

  • While beachside towers provide quick coastal access, accommodations on the bayside sit up to three miles away from the ocean and require a car. 117
  • Some golfers enjoy the course layout and friendly driving range staff, but others report furry, bumpy greens and missing water stations that fail to justify full prices. 35

Who it's for

  • Families needing spacious multi-bedroom condos
  • Travelers prioritizing diverse on-site dining
  • Guests seeking scenic balcony views over the bay or ocean

Skip it if

  • Golfers expecting pristine greens and fully stocked courses
  • Travelers who refuse to drive or shuttle to reach the beach
  • Guests seeking to avoid daily resort and beach chair fees

  • The room looked exactly like the pictures. There were paper towels, toilet paper, ice in the freezer, dish soap, sponge, one use pack of laundry soap, a cooler to take down to the beach, blow dryer, etc. Very clean, and literally the only "wrong" thing was a bathroom drawer off its hinges. No dirt or bugs. 5

  • The location between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico is beautiful, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the picture-perfect Florida coast. 1
  • But we did love that we were just a few minutes walk from the Baytowne Wharf in the resort. We spent a lot of lazy/tired times just wandering around there. 4

  • A big advantage of this resort is the sheer choice of rooms available, from a standard hotel room to huge four-bedroom condos where you could comfortably spend a summer. 1
  • The fairways and layout was good, But the greens were terrible!! It looked Like they cut the greens with a weed eater, And they weee so slow. 3
  • Though most rooms are in good shape, there have been occasional complaints of maintenance lacking in some units, including faulty air-conditioners, worn furniture, and sagging mattresses. 17
  • Plus, the private balcony with two chairs and a table offers a nice evening escape for parents to watch the sunset over the Gulf while the kiddos sleep inside. 2
  • Layout crossing Hwy 98 (tunnel to cross) was interesting getting us near the beach. Lots of water and sand traps, but course was fair. 3
  • The Westwinds tower has one- to three-bedroom condos by the beach, many providing stellar ocean vistas from their balcony. 17
  • The course layout is very good. The greens are very furry and do not give a good roll or consistency. 3
  • Overall not bad, love the layout and it has plenty of sand. The greens are very slow,we were told the greens were punched a few weeks ago. 3
  • The course layout and fairways were great and I think I would have enjoyed the round thoroughly if the greens weren't in such disrepair. 3
  • I definitely enjoyed the ocean views and cool breezes on my balcony. 14
  • Guys, this is one of my favorite parts, the balcony. You should see this view. Look at this view. You can see the beach. This is a beautiful view. This is my favorite part of the hotel. On camera131:31
  • Stunning view of the expansive water from both bedrooms and living room. 5
  • Guys, this is one of my favorite parts, the balcony. On camera131:31
  • The room we chose was Westwinds 2B 2.5B #4845 on 20th floor. Stunning view of the expansive water from both bedrooms and living room. 5
  • In the room was a comfy king bed and a sofa that could pull out into a bed, sleeping two more. 2

  • Weather was very hot but completely enjoyed playing the course with my sons. Staff and Marshall's very informative and friendly. 3
  • Seagar's is NW Florida's first and only AAA Four-Diamond steakhouse. It is a gorgeous steakhouse with excellent service. 14
  • We sat on the patio poolside and enjoyed the breeze from the water and our server was friendly and helpful. We tried the orange cinnamon roll (delish), beignets (humongous and tasty), tomato soup (also good), strawberry cream cheese French toast, and two other typical breakfast platters. 5
  • For breakfast we went to Sunset Bay Cafe which again, if you go during busy season definitely make a reservation, but it's on Sandestin property on the water. We sat on the patio poolside and enjoyed the breeze from the water and our server was friendly and helpful. 5
  • Even better, it offers luxurious rooms, elevated service and a laid-back family-friendly vibe. 2
  • where I kind of got aggravated I saw the beverage car girl on number one fortunately didn't need anything never saw the rest of the day On camera108:36
  • ustomer service, with phone calls to the reception desk taking time to be answered. There are also concerns that the check-in desk can be quite far from the accommodation, leading to confusion among first-timers. 1
  • The staff at the driving range was phenomenal. I stopped there first because it's set apart from the course and I wanted to warm up. 3
  • Regardless of which digs you choose, recent visitors are quick to praise the pristine beach, endless activities, and top-notch staff. 7
  • Towels were included with our stay. Our condo was much affordable than renting a house in Seaside, which is what I originally tried to do when we booked our trip. (Seaside is about a 25 minute drive down the road.) 4
  • Sandestin drives and Destin Estates one through 36 on the Bayside their security out and about that's nice On camera154:37
  • Greens were not well kept and almost impossible to play. Very hairy. Staff was nice though. 3
  • A touristy shopping, dining and entertainment district, the Village of Baytowne Wharf is easy to get to, thanks to the free onsite shuttle service that runs between the Hilon Sandestin and the Wharf. 2
  • As many of the villas are privately owned and rented out to guests, you can find rooms to suit a variety of tastes and group sizes. This can also occasionally be a downside: some guests find the older rooms to be not as well maintained and housekeeping hit and miss. 1
  • Course fairways were great, greens were green but a little bumpy. Staff we interacted with were friendly. 3
Location5 mentions
  • But we did love that we were just a few minutes walk from the Baytowne Wharf in the resort. We spent a lot of lazy/tired times just wandering around there. 4
  • Close to good restaurants (Cantina Laredo was our favorite!) and only a few minute drive to a nice grocery store. 4
  • The location between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico is beautiful, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the picture-perfect Florida coast. 1
  • I was underwhelmed when I was there in Feb in Wyndham Bay Club II. That location is probably only fun if you go right to golfing. 18
  • IdahoSuz said: We are headed to the Destin area in FL in a few days. We are staying at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club in Sandestin. We love the fact that we can walk to many restaurants and activities from the resort. 18
Noise1 mention
  • It was really quiet in our condo (not like when you stay at a hotel and hear all the people walking above you/watching tv/talking loudly). We had no issues sleeping at night-we never heard anyone in the condos around us! 4
Food6 mentions
  • The only AAA Four-Diamond steakhouse in all of Northwest Florida, eating here is a dining experience, from the tableside prepped Ceasar salad and bananas foster to the melt-in-your-mouth filet. 2
  • Sushi Chef Jin Kim's creations are as beautiful as they are tasty. It was honestly some of the best sushi I have ever had. 14
  • Favorites include Tommy Bahama Restaurant, Bar and Store, with a casual tropical-beach inspired menu, and Another Broken Egg Cafe, a diner with a delicious breakfast spread. 1
  • I was wary based off reviews, but overall, we enjoyed our food, and nothing was dried out, overcooked or bland. The rum runner drink was good, and the dueling pianos was fun to listen to even if we couldn't see them. 5
  • You're welcome. Also located just off the lobby across from Hadashi,Sandcastles is the place where the breakfast buffet is served each morning. It's an expansive (and pretty good) spread, with the standards such as scrambled eggs, fruit, pastries and biscuits and gravy. 2
  • The Village of Baytowne Wharf has pedestrian-only cobbled lanes and a fine mix of restaurants, shops, and entertainment. 12

  • When we arrived, we were shocked by the $500 hold for golf cart incidentals. While understandable, we were put off because the fee wasn't mentioned anywhere on their site, over the phone while booking, or the paperwork up to arrival. 5
  • I think I would have enjoyed the round thoroughly if the greens weren't in such disrepair. For the price, I was very disappointed. 3
  • Worse than the practice greens. This course way over charges for what it is 3
  • Surprisingly, there are fees for the loungers on the beach and for housekeeping, if you want the latter daily. 1
  • just it's unfortunate the course is not in great shape right now and it's definitely not worth the rate they're asking On camera108:46
  • Staff was nice though. Should not be able to charge full price considering the green conditions. 3

  • PS: this is not sponsored by Sandestin, we paid for 100% of everything on our trip! Our condo was super clean and the place was beautiful. 4
  • Daily resort fee: One of those dreaded hidden fees resorts charge, the fee at the Hilton Sandestin is $40/day. 2
