The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Moxy Banff offers a fresh, playful stay anchored by bar check-in, renovated rooms, and an energetic courtyard vibe. The design makes smart use of space with unique camper-style facing beds and functional standing showers. However, the motion-sensor heating system can leave rooms chilly at night unless someone gets up to trigger it, and bathrooms can feel cramped. 52

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Check-in takes place directly at the bar, where guests can use drink chips and access free around-the-clock coffee and tea. 4
  • Rooms are newly renovated with stylish aesthetic touches, neat facing queen bed layouts, and small balconies offering views of the mountains. drawn from the full read
  • Dining revolves around snacks and appetizers served from a restored 1966 VW food truck facade in place of a traditional sit-down restaurant. 6

The catch

  • Some guests find the 15 to 20 minute stroll along Banff Avenue into downtown easy and convenient, while others find it a bit far from the main tourist strip. 52
  • Reviews of the food truck snacks range from quick and delicious to hit-and-miss and average. drawn from the full read

Who it's for

  • Design-conscious travelers
  • Social guests who enjoy lively bar check-ins
  • Visitors looking for newly renovated rooms

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers sensitive to motion-triggered heating
  • Anyone wanting a full sit-down restaurant on-site
  • Travelers seeking large, spacious bathrooms

  • The bathroom (although quite small) was also a neat design with the sink and vanity actually being in the hallway outside of the bathroom with the shower and the toilet, so if one person is showering and one person is brushing their teeth, you still have your privacy! 6

  • And although Moxy Banff doesn't have a sit-down restaurant per se, they do serve appetizers and bites from an all-day menu right out of a fully restored '66 VW food truck that opens on to the kitchen (the brisket poutine and the smoked salmon flatbread were our faves!). 6

  • But, the coolest part of the room layout was probably the two Queen beds facing each other. Now, at first glance, you might question this choice design, but I personally loved it. 6
  • Oh, and did I mention all of the room accents were a gorgeous sagey mint green? It's like they knew I was coming. I was vibing with the aesthetic for sure. 6

Which room to ask for

What reviewers say about where to sleep inside this building — by room number where one is named, and otherwise by floor, wing, aspect and position. Every line opens onto the quotes behind it.

No reviewer has yet described a room, floor or aspect specifically enough to act on at this property. Room intelligence appears here the moment they do.

Food4 mentions · 1 filmed
  • I especially liked using the extra drink chips to try different drinks. There is also a food kitchen that operates out of a retro van facade. The food was prettyaverage in my opinion. 2
  • I chose the $10 F&B option. It doesn't go very far as everything on the menu is over $10. 5
  • And they also have free coffee here basically 24/7 coffees and teas. So, that's a nice little park. On camera45:41

  • The bathroom was small but functional. It had a standing shower and was supplied with shampoo and shower gel. 2
Location5 mentions · 1 filmed
  • All in our four night stay was ~$2000 USD. Considering the location and the cost of nearby options I felt it was decently priced. 2
  • Moxy Banff is located on Banff Ave, which is the main road in Banff making navigation very easy. Downtown Banff is a little less than a mile away and can be reached by on foot within 20 minutes. 2
  • I do wish it was slightly closer to downtown Banff, but it is still very walkable to downtown Banff. 2
  • So, but all in all, great stay. Nice and close to downtown B. maybe a 15-minute walk. On camera422:43
  • The hotel is near the start of Banff Avenue as you're coming into town, so it's a bit of a walk to the main tourist areas. 5
Service6 mentions
  • The food quality was hit and miss, and the service was lacking, as most staff seemed to be in training. 1
  • Like all Moxy Hotels, check in is at the bar. At first it might sound strange but it works good. 2
  • The comp pretzels and gummy worms were a nice touch. 5
  • The back-to-back queen beds were a nice touch, though they could've been a bit softer. 1
  • The service we received at Moxy Banff was excellent. Check-in was great and the staff was friendly. 2
  • The staff at Moxy Banff made for a great stay from start to finish. 2

Room12 mentions
  • The room also opens up to a spacious balcony with two chairs and a tree trunk table to breathe in all that nice mountain air! 6
  • The one thing that really annoyed us was the temperature control. The heater only ran when there's motion, leading to a rather chilly night. The room would warm up every time someone got up and triggered the motion sensor. But, the room would cool down again while we were asleep. 5
  • Even though the room was smaller it was still quite functional and was updated. 2
  • Room was small, but nicely decorated and functional. 5
  • The room was a great size and a great layout. 5
  • But, the coolest part of the room layout was probably the two Queen beds facing each other. Now, at first glance, you might question this choice design, but I personally loved it. 6
  • The welcome drink was a great touch, and the mobile key worked perfectly for all doors. We booked the Two Queen Balcony room, which was a bit tight for us with two pets and a baby. 1
  • The layout was efficient, with good utility features, such as an abundance of hooks in the room kept things from feeling cluttered. 1
  • Oh, and did I mention all of the room accents were a gorgeous sagey mint green? It's like they knew I was coming. I was vibing with the aesthetic for sure. 6
  • The room also features a nice sized hanging desk with a comfy leather chair and nightstands that you can move around the room to suit you. 6
  • The room had other local touches like old postcards, a camping lantern, and a map of the national park. The stuffed animal head on the wall was cute, too! 5
  • But, my favorite part of the hotel would have to be the guest rooms. Our room, at 269 square feet, wasn't huge by any means but it's space and design was extremely functional, which I'm always a fan of. 6
Bed & Sleep1 mention
  • The bed had an arm/headboard around two side of the bed and reminded me of a bed from camper. The bed was comfortable and was great for relaxing after a hike. 2
