The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Located on a bluff across the road from its sister Grand Wailea resort, this property offers spacious multi-bedroom condominium villas with private garages and a dedicated pool complex. Reviewers consistently praise the immaculate interiors, responsive hosts, and upscale Wolf appliances. However, guests frequently note drawbacks including steep multi-level stairs inside units, an uphill walk back from the beach, and expensive extra fees. 59103

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • The spacious villas come outfitted with high-end appliances, including Wolf sub-zero cabinet refrigerators and outdoor grills. 10
  • Bathrooms are well-appointed with marble countertops, standup showers, and large jetted or soaking tubs. 71210
  • The location puts guests within easy walking distance of the Shops at Wailea and surrounding resort dining across the street. 659

The catch

  • While several guests praise panoramic ocean and sunset views from private terraces, others found their assigned ocean view showed barely a sliver of water. 9
  • Some visitors found the solid construction exceptionally quiet, whereas guests in lower-row units reported noticeable road noise on their lanai. 9

Who it's for

  • Multi-generation families or large groups
  • Travelers wanting private kitchens and grills
  • Guests seeking villa privacy with resort amenities

Skip it if

  • Anyone with mobility issues who wants to avoid stairs
  • Travelers seeking direct beachfront access without uphill walks
  • Budget-conscious guests sensitive to add-on resort costs

  • Location is a standout. Most villas are a short walk or quick drive to Wailea Beach, the Shops at Wailea, restaurants, coffee, and golf. 9
  • Was introduced to wonderful new restaurant ( to us) from Shaunte at The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea. Adults only hotel and magical restaurant. 3

  • It was immaculately decorated with superb appliances (e.g. Wolf sub-zero cabinet refrigerator, Wolf outdoor grill, huge soaking tub in master bathroom suite, etc.). 10
  • This is a beautiful and spacious vacation home! We especially loved the large and bright living room which opens to the outside Lanai blending inside and outside living with a lovely view of the tropical garden and landscaping. 6

  • Very helpful communications with any small issues and questions we had. Lolita was Very attentive and helpful 6
  • Thanks to Hilton Diamond Desk My wife and I really needed a once in a life time experience. We got that and the efforts of the Diamond Desk staff, which were truly well beyond what could have been expected, played a large part in that. 10

  • Super comfy furnishings and bed... ALL THE AMENITIES! 6
  • On the place itself, the first night we didnt have a duvet on our bed and there was no "extra" duvet or blanket in the whole place. When we went to bed we were so exhausted we just thought it was Hawaii and crashed, but woke up in the middle of the night FREEZING with AC, etc. 3

  • Overall great stay and value. We would rent from them again and would recommend this unit. 6
  • Located on a tony bluff across the road from its sister Grand Wailea, this remains one of Wailea's most exclusive and most expensive condominium resorts, despite its off-beach location. It is designed like a neighborhood development, and those at the top of the hill have the best views 5

Noise4 mentions
  • Some lower-row or road-adjacent villas report noticeable road noise on the lanai, and the uphill walk back from the beach can be tiring for some-many guests simply drive and park. 9
  • I can't tell you enough how great the location of this home is because it's very quiet but we are 1 min walk away from the pool and fitness room and just across the street is the beach. 6
  • No noise from street or neighbors (hallelujah). 6
  • My understanding is that the villas go for ~$2.5M+ on the market and it shows. We did not hear our neighbors. The construction is solid--what I have seen in other parts of Asia, but less often in the mainland U.S. 10
Value6 mentions
  • Overall great stay and value. We would rent from them again and would recommend this unit. 6

  • ort, some restaurants on site were better than others at children's menu items. We didn't feel like Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa had a great children's menu and was ridiculously expensive for what you get. 3
  • I absolutely loved my time there, and while it is pricey it was a totally worthwhile splurge. 11
  • Grand Wailea (Waldorf Astoria), Hawaii - Best in Hawaii Same - people who hate it either visit Hawaii during peak tourist season or can't actually afford the cost of Maui. I absolutely loved my time there, and while it is pricey it was a totally worthwhile splurge. 11
  • As with everything in Hawaii, the resort is expensive. We felt a little nicked-and-dimed having to pay $150 for two lounge chairs on the beach for the day. Especially when we were already paying a daily resort fee. 3
Service17 mentions
  • Very helpful communications with any small issues and questions we had. Lolita was Very attentive and helpful 6
  • Thanks to Hilton Diamond Desk My wife and I really needed a once in a life time experience. We got that and the efforts of the Diamond Desk staff, which were truly well beyond what could have been expected, played a large part in that. 10
  • Ho'olei Villas offers shuttle services to The Shops at Wailea (and, I'm sure, other places). We only used the shuttle to help us bring our luggage down the steep hill at check-out, but they were very nice. We just texted that we needed a pickup, and they were there within a few minutes. 3
  • The hotel concierge was slightly difficult to communicate with over emails when asking questions in preparation for our trip. We continuously had multiple emails for simple questions. However, they were very nice about everything, offered good suggestions, and were very responsive with texting when we were on-site. 3
  • Great support from the GW staff. 10
  • The views from the villa were very nice. 3
  • Cozy linens, towels, & robes! 6
  • Housekeeping is every 4th day, which will be a drawback for some. 10
  • Property manager was very responsive. Already book this home for our next year's getaway. 6
  • Property was incredible and the staff was great about everything. Very responsive to any issues we had. 6
  • Personal check in--i.e. a staff member will show you to your villa, walk you through each of the rooms and outline the amenities, discuss any questions about the property, the Grand Wailea, Maui, etc. Provided a very helpful notebook that included daily schedule of events at the GW. Offered to help unload our luggage. The personal check in was a nice touch and much appreciated. 10
  • The personal check in was a nice touch and much appreciated. 10
  • The staff tried very hard though to make things right. 3
  • All three bedrooms are nice and comfortable and the bathrooms are great as well. 6
  • Shuttle service to GW was quick! 10
  • Check-in is usually smooth, hosts/managers are highly responsive, and welcome touches (snack baskets, early/late check-in when possible) are common. 9
  • The new towel policy for the pool makes you feel like a second class citizen even though you're paying $10k a week but assuming that's not necessarily the owners fault. 6
Location10 mentions
  • Beach toys for our kids were appreciated, as well as the beach chairs & boogie boards. You can walk to the shops at Wailea as well which was super convenient, as I hate spending vacation in the car. 6
  • Loved our time here. We keep coming back to these units -- wonderful location and very comfortable. 6
  • Great location but it's aging. 11

  • Well stocked property, incredible location. Hosts were the best we have ever had! 6
  • Location is perfection, with resorts all around where you can dine, drink and shop. 6
  • Beyond the amazing interiors, the location is the best of all worlds. 6
  • The location could not be better! It is walkable to the beach and the access point is just below the Four Seasons (you can even walk up there for lunch/drinks). 6
View2 mentions
  • No view from any of the bedrooms, but the upstairs has sweeping views. As already indicated in reviews, its a bit far from the water (10-15mins down, 20mins walk back up), but the views are gorgeous from the lanai and shuttle is super accessible. 3
  • Stayed there last year to use a free night certificate and got so excited when they upgraded me to ocean view. The view of the ocean was maybe 1% of my field of vision after squinting 11

  • The condo layout we had (Deluxe Ocean view) only had a dining room table outside on the patio and not in the condo. It was really too hot (August) to eat out there and would have liked it to be located in the air conditioned condo. 3
  • Also really prefer the Master suite to be on the same level as the kitchen like we had at the other condo we stayed at in 2018. Spent a lot of time walking up and down two sets of stairs to get downstairs to Master. 3
