The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Castle Kamaʻole Sands Resort is a midrange Kihei condo-hotel offering self-catering units across the street from the beach. Guests consistently appreciate the spacious floor plans, large lanais, and well-kept grounds with pools and barbecue areas. However, noise is a major complaint, spanning from heavy street traffic near the road to disruptions from concrete drilling and pathway construction. Some condos are also noticeably dated, and guests note that traditional hotel services like regular housekeeping are not standard. 5152722

  • All the units have kitchens, sofa beds, and private balconies. They do, however, vary greatly in location (there are ten buildings) and views, which range from humdrum to spectacular. 29

  • Bad - the room was a bit outdated but we didn't mind. 15
  • We had constant concrete drilling directly above our room for hours on end for days. I finally called hoping it would stop and was told by front desk that it was scheduled to be on going Mon-Fri 9-5pm throughout our stay. I had a head ache and wanted to nap in the afternoons as well as get ready for dinners we had planned, but it was impossible. 15
  • I know Maui Vista has some really old window AC units still and some newer split systems. 1
  • We stayed at the Kamaole Sands a few months ago and loved it. We had a great room. 22
  • Accommodations are spacious and comfortable, offering studios, one, two and three bedroom suites with fully-equipped kitchen and private lanai. 17

  • The location is perfect, great beaches, food and fun all within a 5-10 minute drive. 9
  • You're also walking distance to all of South Kihei's restaurants and shops. You're a 10-minute drive to the shops at Wlaya that has a lot of restaurant and shopping options. You're a 30inut drive to the airport. Camands is a central location and is super convenient. On camera24:18

  • Great location if you like scuba diving/snorkling. Good beaches for families and sun worshippers just across the street. 9
  • Location-wise, we've found that Kihei is an easier and shorter drive getting to major destinations around the island. For example, getting to the OGG airport from Kaanapali takes nearly twice the time it takes to get to Kamaole Sands. 28
  • Kihei is a walkable beach town with a selection of casual restaurants, grocery stores, and sundry shops - perfect for picking up a tube of reef-safe sunscreen or spam musubi snack. 28

  • The location is not as private as Maui Hill, but it's an easy walk to the beach and nearby dining and entertainment venues. 27
  • Kamaole Sands is conveniently located in South Kihei. Within just a few blocks you have many options from other sandy beaches to shopping and dining options. 8
  • I enjoyed the convenience of having many nearby restauants to choose from. 22
  • The location is perfect, love it being a 1 minute walk to the beach. Plus all the amenities are within walking distance too. 9
  • Location: Not only is it a short walk from some of Kihei's most popular shopping and dining options, it's directly across the street from Kamaole Beach III, which made it on our list of the best beaches on Maui. 3
  • We booked through Agoda, which I believe belongs in the Priceline family. We had a deluxe garden studio with two queens and patio. The location and the beach is fabulous. 15
  • I stayed in Kamaole Sands a month ago and found it kind of rundown and in need if updating. Location is fine and I'd stay in Kihei again but I'll choose a different place next time. 15
