The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Rocky Point Waterfront caters heavily to pre-cruise travelers needing airport and port transfers. Guests consistently enjoy the heated outdoor pool and spectacular sunset views over Tampa Bay. However, sleep quality can suffer from loud music drifting up from the bar as well as cramped bedroom layouts. 101

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • The heated outdoor pool and exercise room provide sweeping views across Tampa Bay, especially at sunset. 110
  • Rooms are reliably clean and come equipped with convenient USB ports and regular plug-in outlets. drawn from the full read
  • Travelers frequently highlight the value of shuttle services connecting directly to the airport and cruise terminal. 1

The catch

  • Some guests describe the rooms as very quiet, while others report sleepless nights caused by loud music from the downstairs bar. 1
  • While several reviewers found the beds nice, others found them uncomfortable or noted that the pullout couch mattress felt like sleeping on a board. 10

Who it's for

  • Pre-cruise stays with port shuttle transfers
  • Guests wanting bayfront sunset views
  • Short airport stopovers

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers sensitive to bar music
  • Travelers needing spacious bedroom layouts

  • The nearest hotel to the port is the Marriott Waterside Hotel, and it's not cheap. 2
  • Many Thanks. Just wanted to state that what was said about Marriot Waterside not always being 302.00 is true. We booked it on night before our cruise in upcoming may for 200 plus taxes, etc. I realize that is still expensive but since it is our first cruise we wanted to "celebrate" a little. 1

  • The area has improved some. For years it was getting to be skid row (where the homeless people roam). Used to be lots of prostitution and other bad activity along W. Kennedy too. It's cleaned up some though. If you stay there, don't venture out much at night unless you are in a taxi, don't walk around at night. 1
  • Thanks! We have stayed at the Hampton Inn a few times. It was a very nice hotel with a great shuttle service 6
  • Very nice free breakfast spread in the morning and easy shuttle to the port. 6
  • We stayed 2 nights pre-cruise at Holiday Inn Express RJ Staduim, very nice, nice pool, great free breaky, I read many complaints about the shuttles but we used them many times and never waited very long at all and it was a busy spring break week. 1
  • Got to the hotel about 7:00 pm. No bellmen, but did have luggage carts. We were met with very friendly and helpful people at the desk. 1
  • I also got the "no availability" on the Chase Suites webiste for 02/25/06. I then used the email link and got a reply back from the manager in a few days. She was very helpful. 2
  • Very nice free breakfast spread in the morning and easy shuttle to the port. Our only issue was the shuttle from airport never showed up so we had to cab to the hotel. If this happens to you have the cab stay because the front desk will pay cab fare. 6

  • Best for business travelers, less so for anyone needing reliable restaurant portion sizes. 10
  • How about the Holiday Inn Harbourside, on the bay in Indian Rocks Beach. It's one block from the beach. There's a marina, a nice little outdoor restaurant that overlooks the pool and the bay, and a nice pool. 14
  • Restaurant breakfast buffet had fresh hot items each morning. 10
  • .. the hotel did provide shuttle services to/from airport as well as breakfast. However, I was not informed about the breakfast vouchers when I checked in. In addition, I had to request vouchers every morning. 1

  • The hotel was a bit noisy (close to airport and bar. 1
  • Hyatt Regency Hotel - 211 N Tampa Street Downtown Tampa. Nice hotel in the middle of town, not very far from the trolley line at the Embassy Suites and Marriott Waterside area. Easy walking distance. 1
  • Marriott Waterside Hotel Cracker Ken: a great location within walking distance of things to do in the S side of the downtown business core, along the water front. 1
  • The 3-star hotel is a good starting point for Tampa's sports attractions, including the multi-purpose Raymond James Stadium, which is about a 15-minute drive away. 3
  • The down side, is the location. This is on the corner of an office park out to the E of Tampa. There is a couple of other hotels around, lots of office complexes, and that's about it. 1
