The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Canmore Inn & Suites provides clean rooms with vaulted ceilings and scenic mountain landscape views. Guests enjoy the complimentary breakfast and nicely appointed bathrooms with granite counters, but late 5:00 p.m. check-in times caused by staff shortages can be frustrating. Common complaints focus on weak shower water pressure, fluctuating water temperatures, and noise from hallway vending machines. 47

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Large windows provide scenic views of the surrounding Canmore mountain landscape. 482
  • The complimentary breakfast offers good food paired with friendly dining service. 92
  • Showers suffer from poor water pressure and inconsistent water temperatures. drawn from the full read

The catch

  • While some guests received smooth check-in service and welcome points, others endured delayed 5:00 p.m. check-in times due to staff shortages. 49
  • Some visitors appreciated the granite countertops and tiled showers, but others found the bathrooms on the slightly small side. 4

Who it's for

  • Travelers wanting scenic mountain views
  • Guests prioritizing included breakfast
  • Visitors looking for vaulted ceiling rooms

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers bothered by noisy vending machines and fridge hums
  • Travelers expecting reliable shower water pressure and temperature
  • Guests needing early check-in access

  • After our son left on his race we moved to Johnstone Canyou Lodge, about halfway between Banff town and Lake Louise, for 2 nights. It is a little quirky, but in a good way. And their restaurant is very good. We really like pd the proximity to the Johnstone Canyon trail, which we hiked several times to see it in the different light of evening and morning. 12
  • Banff and Lake Louise have the iconic and luxurious Fairmont hotels! We never made it to the Banff Fairmont, but we did enjoy lunch at the Lake Louise Fairmont during our 5 days in Banff. 8

  • Canmore has the Bow River Campground, which is located next to the Bow River with stunning views. 2
  • The Moose Hotel is located in the center of the action on Banff Avenue and is our favorite hotel in downtown Banff. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, and their rooftop hot tubs have some of the best views in Banff. 14

  • Lodge (book here) - Consistently a great value for the price. Located on the edge of Banff Avenue, making it quieter and easier access in and out of Banff. 2
  • Not there, but 2 summers ago we stayed at the next-door Douglas Fir Resort. We were in Banff to see our son off on a bikepacking race, and he chose the place based o price. It was pretty basic, but the location, a bit out of town traffic, is good. 12

  • The Bottom Line on the Holiday Inn Canmore: Despite the front desk weirdness, the hotel itself was fine. It was a standard "middle of the road" hotel with a key location close to Banff National Park, and I couldn't really ask for more than that. 9
  • There is a free transit service from the campground to Banff town centre. Also close to Banff is the Two-Jack Lake campground, which offers minimal services in a quiet, full mountain landscape location. 2
  • The Malcolm is the nicest hotel in Canmore and sits right along Policeman's Creek boardwalk just far enough away from the hustle of Downtown. 14
  • The Lamphouse Hotel is right on Main Street, just steps away from anything you could want in Canmore. They have very comfortable rooms in a convenient location. 14
  • Canmore has a nice downtown area, but overall, the town's amenities, including the accommodation options, are much more spread out compared to Banff, which makes it not as good for walking as Banff. 14
  • In addition, there are a number of great hotels and resort-style properties in Canmore, although there are fewer than in Banff. Our absolute favorite is The Malcolm as it's tucked away enough to avoid the crowds of Downtown Canmore, but still only a short walk away. 14
  • Canmore has the Bow River Campground, which is located next to the Bow River with stunning views. 2

  • The room was otherwise clean and comfortable. 9
  • My daughter and two of her friends stayed at The Fox (Banff) in September of last year. Two bed suite, around C$300 per night midweek, don't know about now. Happy with the room and facilities. 12
  • The first floor room was standard, typical, but it was located ground level right outside the parking lot and the window shades didn't close the entire way leaving the room exposed "line-up style" (bright on the inside, dark on the outside). 9

  • Members of the front desk staff (who will remain nameless) were perhaps a little "flirty" with each other when I had asked about breakfast. "Included" they said as if I was interrupting their conversation. 9

  • The check-in was fine. I was recognized for my status and asked which welcome gift option I would like (I went with the 500 points), and handed me my room key (no upgrade this time). 9
  • When I did end up getting my free breakfast, the food was good, and the service staff there were really nice. 9
