  • The hotel is in a great location downtown. It's only a few blocks from the Iowa River, there are lots of restaurants within walking distance and it's in what seemed to be a safe neighborhood. 1
  • Location is prime. It's downtown right in the ped mall where there are lots of restaurants, bars, and shopping. 7

  • The living area featured a sleeper sofa with an ottoman. The side table carried a blanket which I was really happy to see. Hyatt Place blankets are perfect - soft, cozy and thick enough to snuggle under but without being so thick that you get hot. 1
  • I definitely think you should check it out! That's one amazing hotel! The room is so nicely decorated and it doesn't look like a hotel room which is so nice! ❤️ 7

Service

  • Service at the Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown was superb. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of their staff members' names, but they were all excellent. So friendly, so hospitable and so welcoming - it was some of the best service we've ever received at any hotel. 1
  • The best part of our stay was the staff. They were all incredibly friendly and welcoming and made our stay even better than it would have been otherwise. 1

Bed & Sleep

  • But I agree, we're not exactly the hot spot haha! This hotel is gorgeous! Although I could sleep anywhere, aesthetics definitely make the stay better! 7

Value

67
read from 1 source · Deep coverage
  • The pet fee is $75 regardless of your length of stay. That's good as far as Hyatt Places go because a lot of other Hyatt Places charge $75 for 1-6 nights and $175 for 7+ nights. 1
  • The average cost per night if we'd paid cash would've been $135.78. That means we got 1.9cpp (cents per point) of value by redeeming points which is pretty good, albeit not spectacular value for Hyatt. 1

  • The sofa bed itself was okay. The pieces didn't quite lock in place, but no amount of stress I put on the folds moved things much (i.e. I wasn't worried about it randomly closing on Zoe). 6
  • Rooms are a decent size too. Enough room for all the necessities and then some! 7
  • However, we didn't manage to take any great photos of them unfortunately. Although we liked our room, one thing we didn't enjoy was the air conditioning for a couple of reasons. There was an air vent that blasted directly at the couch, so it was often far too cold to sit there. 1
  • A great feature of the corner room was how much natural light we received thanks to the windows spanning two sides of the room. 1
  • I noticed immediately while walking around in my socks that an area by the door was wet. When you travel with a toddler, it's not uncommon for water to get spilled. But this felt larger than anything Zoe would have done, and there was a distinct mildewy smell to the room. 6
  • Walls in the room are a little thin which can be a bit awkward, but I guess that's what cranking up TVs are for haha. 7
  • such a wonderful place to stay in. Love those quirky decor you pictured.. 7
  • The air conditioning also didn't work great; sometimes the temperature in the room was showing as 73°, but even turning the thermostat down to 69° didn't have it kick in. 1
  • The final morning of our trip, Emily went into the living room to wake up Zoe and heard a steady "drip drip drip". When we turned on the light, we found a gigantic bulging leak in the ceiling, along with other wet spots around it. 6
  • I know I must have gotten pretty annoying with all my picture taking too, so that says a lot haha. Our heater in our room wasn't working and they came right away to try to fix it and when that didn't work, they put us in a new room. 7
  • One could quibble about the aesthetic of the room. Emily put it best-the aesthetic of the Graduate Iowa City just doesn't scale well to suites. At a smaller scale in a regular hotel room, it's really fun. At a larger scale, it looks pretty tacky. 6
  • The decor is quirky, but it feels warm and cozy at the same time. It meets my standards! 7
  • The living area featured a sleeper sofa with an ottoman. The side table carried a blanket which I was really happy to see. Hyatt Place blankets are perfect - soft, cozy and thick enough to snuggle under but without being so thick that you get hot. 1

  • So friendly, so hospitable and so welcoming - it was some of the best service we've ever received at any hotel. They even bought Truffles some dog treats from a local boutique pet store which was going above and beyond. 1
  • The staff is very friendly! I know I must have gotten pretty annoying with all my picture taking too, so that says a lot haha. 7

  • After a few minutes, someone showed up to check us in. I forgot it was a holiday, and I'd like to say I'm grateful for anyone working at all. That said, she wasn't at all apologetic for leaving the desk completely unstaffed, without any signage or a note. 6
  • Rooms are clean (read: no stranger's underwear haha) and nice. 7
  • The best part of our stay was the staff. They were all incredibly friendly and welcoming and made our stay even better than it would have been otherwise. 1
  • It ended up being a wonderful stay. We received a corner room on the top floor with nice views, but the best part of our stay was the staff. 1

  • Shae and I had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown. It's in a good location, has a decent breakfast selection and we enjoyed the corner room we received on the top floor even if its air conditioning was a little goofy. 1
  • After leaving Des Moines, our next stop in Iowa was Iowa City. We booked a stay at the Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown as it was in a good location and was decent value when booking with World of Hyatt points. 1
  • I am also a big fan of staying close to the action - it is usually my first and most important consideration when choosing a hotel - so it is good to know how close it is to everything! 7
