The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Sheraton San Diego Resort is a large waterfront property situated on the marina directly adjacent to San Diego International Airport. Guests appreciate panoramic views of the bay from private balconies alongside convenient airport shuttle service. However, travelers regularly complain about pricey food and beverages, high resort and parking fees, and older, smaller rooms in the outer Bay Tower. 52614

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Reviewers consistently praise the scenic views overlooking the marina and San Diego Bay, especially at sunset from private balconies and Harbor's Edge restaurant. 6
  • Beds and pillows earn steady marks for comfort, with guests noting quality sleep and crisp linens. 14
  • Visitors frequently commend the convenience of the free airport shuttle running every 25 minutes and the walking paths along the waterfront promenade. drawn from the full read

The catch

  • Noise levels divide guests, with some calling the property quiet and others complaining about airplane noise from the active runway. 125
  • Accommodations trigger mixed reactions, as guests in the Marina Tower enjoy updated, spacious rooms while those assigned to the Bay Tower report smaller, dated quarters and a long walk to main amenities. 5

Who it's for

  • Travelers needing quick airport access with a dedicated shuttle
  • Guests seeking private balconies with bay and marina views
  • Marriott Bonvoy members earning or redeeming points

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers sensitive to airplane and runway noise
  • Travelers seeking a central downtown location
  • Guests wanting to avoid steep resort and parking fees

  • We later strolled the waterfront promenade and grabbed dinner before returning to our room. Our wonderful stay ended with room service breakfast the following morning. I personally recommend the yummy breakfast burrito with braised short rib. 6
  • We decided on the warm tortilla chips with queso and Mexican street corn for appetizers. We also tried the spiced tortilla soup and Cali chicken and hominy pozole. Tortilla soup is one of my favorites and it did not disappoint! 6

  • Yes, it's an older hotel, but for the location it can not be beat, I usually get a Bay view room (away from he airport) and to wakeup each morning to that view, is priceless. 11
  • i stayed there once and enjoyed the walk to the east far end of harbor island drive at night. really stunning views of downtown 11

Bed & Sleep

read from 1 source · Deep coverage
  • The bed and pillows were pretty comfortable for good sleep, but the sound proofing due to an adjoining room and a view of the active runway are not optimal for light sleepers. 2
  • Sheraton La Jolla offers spacious suites with either a king bed or two queens. The latter can sleep up to five with a rollaway bed. 1

  • As Marriott Titanium members, we received a room upgrade to a Skyline view room, the complimentary breakfast was excellent with high quality items well executed, but the resort and parking fees are high (as expected). 2
  • We figured we would have to pay taxi fare no matter where we stayed. Our room was available when we arrived, and despite the low price, a special I was offered as a Starwood member, we were given a room on a high floor with a fabulous view and balcony. 8

  • As Marriott Titanium members, we received a room upgrade to a Skyline view room, the complimentary breakfast was excellent with high quality items well executed, but the resort and parking fees are high (as expected). 2
  • In this review, you'll see why this Sheraton is more than just an airport hotel and great value for money. 14
  • Some guests complain of minor cleanliness issues, however, and daily parking is pricey. 5
  • Our room was available when we arrived, and despite the low price, a special I was offered as a Starwood member, we were given a room on a high floor with a fabulous view and balcony. We stayed at the marina tower because the pool was there. It was a beautiful hotel and a beautiful room. 8
  • We figured we would have to pay taxi fare no matter where we stayed. Our room was available when we arrived, and despite the low price, a special I was offered as a Starwood member, we were given a room on a high floor with a fabulous view and balcony. 8
  • overpriced restaurant downstairs if you want to get something in in for what you get On camera45:59
  • There is a minibar though our room did not have a menu with pricing. I called the front desk and housekeeping to inquire about pricing in order to determine whether I should pull a juice for my daughter from the minibar or go downstairs to get one. Someone told me there aren't menus for the minibar, but I'm not sure if that's correct or not because the one I requested never came. 14
  • They want to redeem or earn Marriott Bonvoy points. It provides reasonable value. 1
  • rtinis and tapas; a Starbucks; and light breakfasts or cocktails in the lounge (some guests have found food and adult beverages expensive). 5
  • I usually can find rates as low as 99/n there, so over all it sure beat the $300 at the US Grant or $225/n at The W downtown. 11
Location12 mentions
  • Located a 20 minute walk from the San Diego International Airport on the marina, it is convenient 2
  • Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina provides an excellent base for a short layover thanks to its location across the street from San Diego International Airport. 14
  • Convenient location walkable to part of UC San Diego 1
  • i stayed there once and enjoyed the walk to the east far end of harbor island drive at night. really stunning views of downtown 11
  • From a multitude of amenities to the great location and allure of the bay, the world-class hotel features an atmosphere as exhilarating as the city of San Diego itself. 10
  • It's also on a park along the bay, so you can get out and walk around if your time allows. They shuttle is really convenient too of course and downtown is a short car ride if your time allows want to spend sometime there after all. 12
  • Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina generously invited us to kick off our summer early and stay for two nights at the recently renovated waterfront resort overlooking the beautiful San Diego Bay. The spectacular location is the first thing that stood out to us upon arrival. 6
  • Yes, it's an older hotel, but for the location it can not be beat, I usually get a Bay view room (away from he airport) and to wakeup each morning to that view, is priceless. 11
  • Why People Choose Sheraton La Jolla Sheraton La Jolla is a low-rise, multi-building hotel with a few notable features that make it stand out from other hotels in San Diego. It has a convenient location to nearby businesses and UCSD. 1
  • And considering the Sheraton's superb views of the bay, you might forget that this property is considered an "airport hotel." 18
  • All in all, this is an excellent location for airport stopovers, or for those who care most about being on the water, but it's inconvenient as a home base for sightseeing. 5
  • Inexpensive shuttle to downtown area and rental bicycles available 5
Room11 mentions · 1 filmed
  • Rooms and baths in the Bay Tower are smaller and seem less updated, so it's worth requesting a room in the Marina Tower. 5
  • The small balcony with seating would be a great place to enjoy an evening glass of wine but we were busy elsewhere in the hotel. 14
  • With newer, fresher decor, and larger accommodations, the Marina Tower offers more restaurants and amenities than the Bay Tower does. 5
  • Cleanliness and maintenance were very good, as expected for a renovated room. 2
  • This is the room overall it's an average but nice looking hotel room and it was very comfortable and a very comfortable bed On camera175:28
  • Marriott Bonvoy members have their own expedited line. We also ordered a room service snack and it came about 10 minutes outside the estimated window. 14
  • Our room included two comfortable Queen-sized beds, a table and chairs, a shower-tub combo, flat-screen TV, a mini fridge, coffee and tea maker, and balcony with seating. 6
  • The large guest room also has the same bed options with a king or two queens, though the living area feels more spacious (especially if you're bringing several pieces of luggage). 1
  • The highlight of the room was the private balcony overlooking the beautiful marina, but the view was beautiful inside, too. 6
  • The bedroom area was spacious and the bathroom felt a little smaller, as expected. 2
  • Families staying at Sheraton La Jolla might consider upgrading to a suite or requesting connecting guest room doors. The guest rooms feel small for more than two people. 1
Noise4 mentions
  • The bed and pillows were pretty comfortable for good sleep, but the sound proofing due to an adjoining room and a view of the active runway are not optimal for light sleepers. We ended up with noisy neighbours the 2nd evening who spoke loudly and watched TV until 2am which made sleep difficult. 2
  • Upside - free shuttle to the airport. Quiet. Much quieter than the Hampton Inn we stayed at pre cruise and much much quieter than the Westin Gaslamp we stayed at for a conference. 8
  • Close to the freeway but not too noisy 1
  • Refrigerators must be requested in advance. Some guests have complained of airport noise. 5

Service6 mentions
  • I don't have enough status for an upgrade, so I was put in a standard room at the outer tower. I forget the name, but it's a good 10 minute walk from the main tower where your photos were taken. Bottom line: The tower is a dump and the service was awful. 11
  • What a great hotel.....everyone there had smiles and seemed sincerely happy to do anything and everything to make your visit nice. 8
  • The common areas of the other tower undergoing renovations were nice too, but in need of a refresh. 2
  • I mention them only because these are things that seasoned travelers like to know. There might have been a conference happening at the same time so the check-in line was about 20 minutes long. 14
  • Service: 78 - It is a busy hotel, but overall service was good. It is a busy hotel, but overall service was good. The front desk is always very busy and service can feel a little rushed. Service at breakfast was above expectations. 2
