The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Positioned at the terminus of the Corniche in West Bay, this pyramid-shaped hotel pairs private beach access with sweeping views of the Arabian Gulf. Guests consistently praise the attentive staff across the property and the Middle East-sized breakfast spread. However, rooms reveal their age through missing tech conveniences, particularly the lack of bedside master light switches and electric curtains. 32114

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • The location at the end of the Corniche offers convenient 20-minute access across Doha and panoramas of passing dhows and the city skyline. 13
  • Bathrooms are well-appointed with red stone counters, separate tubs and showers, and Hermes toiletries. 63
  • Staff across the front desk, club lounge, and private beach receive consistent praise for warm and attentive service. 14
  • Breakfast delivers an expansive Middle Eastern spread featuring curries, waffles, pancakes, and hummus. 314

The catch

  • While some guests admire the well-maintained historic property and classic Gulf luxury, others consider the gold fittings and traditional aesthetic dated and staid. 3
  • Although the breakfast buffet earns widespread praise for variety, individual dishes like the shakshuka drew criticism for unusual preparation. drawn from the full read

  • The rooms could, admittedly, do with a refurbishment to bring them up to modern standards - not having a master switch for the lights is quite annoying, and the style is a starting to age. Functionally they are good, nice and large with a big bathroom and I found the bed very comfortable. 3

  • Al Sultan Brahim: Occupying the top floor of the hotel is this high-end, Lebanese, seafood-focused restaurant with five locations around the Middle East. The food is well-regarded and the views can't be beat. 14
  • Free Breakfast: There is an over-the-top breakfast buffet served daily at Al Hubara Restaurant. It's one of the more extensive spreads that I've seen in some time, with 2+ rooms of Middle Eastern, Western and Asian selections. 14
  • Excellent breakfast and club lounge 14
  • The rest of the food was great, with everything from cereals: .... plus curries, fruit, pancakes and waffles, and Arabic breakfast items including hummus etc: It is a proper, Middle East-sized breakfast buffet. 3
  • The service, food, beverage and facilities are top-notch. 14
  • The buffet itself is vast, and you can also order a handful of items from an a la carte menu. 3

  • The granddaddy of Doha luxury is still going strong today with an enviable location at the terminus of the Corniche in West Bay, Doha. 14
  • Terrific location at one end of the Corniche 14
  • To be honest I've never stayed at a Sheraton that I liked. Anyway nice location and lots of outdoor space. 3
  • The Sheraton Grand may not be the newest hotel in Doha but, by and large, it keeps up thanks to its huge range of facilities and beachside location. 3

  • The bed is very comfortable, and staff come round every day for the turndown service. 3
  • Toiletries are E'eau de Orange Verte by Hermes - very nice but hard to use given the fairly firm plastic containers! 3

  • here is the view from the window of our restaurant when it's still light more beautiful here on this corner of the pyramid we are sitting it turns out you see here and here and That's such beauty here 13
  • Getting onto the balcony is a bit of a challenge because the door opens in the far left hand corner, behind the TV and the curtains, which means you have to draw the curtains entirely to have any hope of getting out. 3
  • The deluxe room was with a balcony overlooking the Persian/Arabian Gulf and the hotel's private beach. It was a cozy little place where one could sit and enjoy a drink while enjoying the dhows ploughing through the calm waters, or the distant and not-so-distant skyscrapers. 2
  • It's most out-dated from a tech perspective, however. Slightly annoyingly, the room doesn't have bedside master light controls or electric curtains, which means you need to go round all the lights to switch them off or open/close the curtains. 3
  • turn them back around there's that little shelf for the bags again we got the bed our sleeping area very nice directly across from that is a little bit of a desk On camera61:13
  • As you can see, the room features more of a traditional Dubai-esque luxury aesthetic with gold fittings all round - it's a little staid for my taste. 3
  • The room, like the hotel, exudes 1980's opulence with colors and fabric choices that aren't...common these days. It has a recessed area in front of the sliding glass doors with a sofa and tables that can be used for wonderful sunrise views. We thought it was fun, but some folks might find it dated. 14
  • so go the view from our balcony at night check it out there's the good stuff 6
  • Great views from just about every room in the property 14
