Read it your way

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is an all-inclusive, all-suite resort located a short drive from the airport, built around extensive pool complexes and waterparks. Guests enjoy comfortable signature beds, poolside food trucks, and distinct restaurant venues like The Cave. However, visitors frequently complain about noise from echoing hallways and outdoor stage shows traveling into rooms, alongside occasional maintenance setbacks. 11251612

What travelers noticed

  • Guests appreciate the quick 15-to-20-minute transfer time from Cancun airport, making arrival seamless for families traveling with children. 1117
  • Suites feature comfortable signature dream beds, stocked minibars, rainfall showers, and private balconies or swim-out access. 2036
  • The property provides extensive on-site recreation, including large swimming pools, dedicated kids water play areas, and waterslides. 2
  • Dining options offer convenient variety, from poolside food trucks to sit-down venues like Zen Teppanyaki and the cave-themed restaurant. 219

The catch

  • While some guests praise exceptional attention from pool daybed servers, others report inconsistent resort management and slow service. 19
  • Dining receives mixed marks, with some praising dishes like rib eye and shrimp fettuccine alfredo while others find the meals unexceptional. 16
  • The open bathroom concept pleases travelers who like giant marble showers and soaking tubs, but frustrates those bothered by curtain dividers and frosted glass. 115

Who it's for

  • Families with kids seeking on-site waterparks
  • Travelers wanting a short shuttle ride from the airport
  • Guests looking for swim-out suites and themed dining

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers sensitive to echoing corridors and stage noise
  • Travelers wanting nightlife in Cancun proper without a rental car
  • Guests who require fully partitioned, traditional bathroom privacy

  • The shower was just as posh as the tub-a giant walk-in marble wonder with four shower heads and room for more than one. 15
  • The bathroom area was large and suited my family's needs quite well. I appreciated that the shower was closed off from the vanity area and the toilet had its own separate door as well. This allowed multiple people to use the bathroom area at a time. 16

  • Hunter Steakhouse was probably the only restaurant that we return to more than once as well both times we managed to get a table straight away too also I'm no steak coniss but the riy steak here was one of the nicest steaks that I've ever had as well 2213:19

I will say the one downfall to this is that I could hear everything going on from my room because the balcony windows are not very soundproof. 2

  • The only bad food we had was room service and it was only poor cause it was cold. We were in one of the furthest away building and figured we were one of last stops on delivery. So we just did not order again. 8
  • I was incredibly impressed with the restaurants we visited during our stay at Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. There are eight dinner-only restaurants on property that are open to families and one that is adults only. 16
  • The food was good, what you expect at an all inclusive; tons of options that are all just fine, not amazing but great for a large amount of people that they serve. 19
  • While the a la carte restaurants were fine (not bad per se, but awfully slow and nothing to write home about), the buffet is outstanding. 4
  • the cave has got to be one of the most eye catch in restaurant here at the resort the name might give it away but it's set inside a purpose-built cave and the interior of the restaurant is just amazing from what I can remember as well the food was really nice here even though I can't really remember what I did actually order to eat On camera2212:04
  • Food is ok. Drinks good. Not the best, not the worst. Just fine. 21
  • Bad food. We tried the steakhouse and the teppenyaki. Both were disappointing. 8
  • now after being full from eating delicious gourmet food you will have to be hungry for some activities you don't need to worry about it because Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun will provide outstanding activities for the whole family to enjoy in a once in a lifetime trip On camera123:22
  • That being said, this might be an unpopular opinion, but we actually enjoyed the buffet more than most of the specialty restaurants. The buffet offered plenty of variety and best of all, no reservations were required. On camera182:14
  • There's long lines for ice cream/coffee place. We liked the coffee/ ice cream but we barely tried it. When we tried, the line was 20 minutes long. 8
  • sen the teani restaurant which you can see here offered not only to have your food cooked in front of you but the chef also puts on a bit of a show for you too which was quite entertaining to watch the food here was really nice too but like most of the restaurants at the resort the portion sizes can be a bit on the small side On camera2210:31
  • All right, let's talk Grub. This place is a foodies paradise with 12 restaurants and 10 bars. That's right, 12 restaurants. You could eat at a different spot every day for almost 2 weeks and never get bored. On camera131:50
  • graty the Italian restaurant also had a great setting as well as it was right next to the beach On camera2213:38
  • All-inlusive food that's a cut above; no reservations required, and 24-hour room service 1
  • The food at Royalton Riviera is above average for an all-inclusive. 1
  • The place was overcrowded. There's long lines for ice cream/coffee place. We liked the coffee/ ice cream but we barely tried it. When we tried, the line was 20 minutes long. Other times, it was longer and we decided against waiting for fancy coffee. 8
  • the cave has got to be one of the most eye catch in restaurant here at the resort the name might give it away but it's set inside a purpose-built cave and the interior of the restaurant is just amazing On camera2212:04
  • The coffee shops are a nice touch. 19
  • If you're a coffee lover, I highly recommend grabbing a coffee from the lounge near the lobby. In my opinion, it's the best coffee at the resort. They also have a nice selection of delicious cakes and pastries, making it a great spot for a quick break. On camera183:23
  • Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach would be an excellent choice within your budget. Large, comfortable rooms. Wonderful food. 19
  • I suspect the culprit was the buffet area, which is massive and isn't always well temperature controlled. 21
  • I love that they had little grab andg go bites right around the pool they had a couple of food trucks they had a little Buffet where you could go grab hamburgers and hot dogs and french fries and just quick food which is important to me because sometimes I just don't want to take the time to put a cover up on and go to the buffet or some of the restaurants On camera63:30
  • The resort itself is awesome, great pools, waterpark, service, food. 21
  • Dining is one of the major strengths of Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun on paper because the resort offers a wide-spread of restaurants and bars. On camera173:46
  • All food at buffet and restaurants was really good and we enjoyed. 8
  • The Cave is a beautiful restaurant that becomes a night club once dinner service is over. We got a sampling of their different dishes and everything was very good. 2
  • Restaurants were not bad but weren't great either. Always long waits, even with reservations and long waits for food to arrive. 8
  • The food was good, what you expect at an all inclusive; tons of options that are all just fine, not amazing but great for a large amount of people that they serve. Lots of restaurant options-again they are all ok, nothing that blew my mind. 19
  • during our stay we got to try all except for one of the restaurants which was the French restaurant which was also an adle only restaurant and to be honest the menu there didn't really look appealing to me anyway On camera2210:12
  • When it comes to dining and drinking, Royaltton Riviera Cancun takes the all-inclusive concept seriously with multiple restaurants and bars that could easily stand alone as destination dining spots. On camera141:51
  • The food is not 'perfect perfect' but it's really quite good with some surprising upscale selections at the buffet. 19
  • Dreams Playa Mujeres would be another very good option! It has spacious accommodations, a variety of dining options, supervised kids club, and lots of activities for the whole family. 19
  • Second, the restaurants can be a little difficult to book. We are a family of four and once we received our room number, we were able to start making restaurant reservations through the resort app. However, we were only able to book one restaurant on our own because almost every restaurant in the app showed they were fully booked. On camera181:20
  • Hunter Steakhouse was probably the only restaurant that we return to more than once as well both times we managed to get a table straight away too also I'm no steak coniss but the riy steak here was one of the nicest steaks that I've ever had as well On camera2213:19
  • We were impressed by the sheer volume of options. There's truly something for everyone, and the quality is heads above most all-inclusives. That's what wowed us most. The quality of the food is just generally good, dare we say even great? 15
  • The food was great and the restaurants were very accommodating for our picky kids. 21
  • how were the lunch options there? Actual-Churner • 3y ago Pretty good. We ate at the one Mexician style restaurant within diamond club twice for lunch as really enjoyed it. 8
  • Aside from the main restaurants, we loved the 24-7 coffee bar that whipped up all sorts of espresso drinks and teas, coffee alternatives like hot cocoa and chocolate milk and always had little snacks like homemade donuts on-hand. 15
  • and the last place we decided to try was the Mexican restaurant now I thought this restaurant was was amazing it is definitely more authentic it's not TexMex it's not you know like a chained restaurant here in the United States it was authentic to me On camera622:23
  • While my son and I chose the riby eye, my daughter opted for shrimp fettuccine alfredo. All of our food was excellent, including the crème brulée for dessert. 16
  • the buffet was probably one of the nicest buffets that I've ever been to out of all the resorts I mean it had so many options and it was pretty good for being a buffet no complaints whatsoever On camera621:13
  • We got to experience two of the restaurants on property, Zen Teppenyaki and The Cave. The teppanyaki tables are the only ones you need a reservation for since the number of seats are limited, so if you want to eat here, make sure you get reservations as soon as you arrive! I enjoyed the food and the show and would recommend it. 2
  • I mean i went recently as of 10 months ago. No issues with food. 21
  • The buffet is busy in the morning so prepare. 19
  • not the worst not the best not impressive wow but there's really very very few family all-inclusives that have wow factor when it comes to food On camera616:03
  • There is excellent quality and variety at the buffet, Gourmet Marche, and none of the a la carte dinner options require reservations -- though some do require a wait to be seated. 1
  • The room service food is 1/4, buffet is 1.5/4, the staff is great, the rooms are fine, and the pool is good except people place towels at 7am. 19
  • The Caribbean Grill was another family favorite (we ordered the triple chocolate dessert for the kids but then had to order two more portions for the grown-ups because it was so freakin' good) while The Hunter steakhouse was only OK (my brisket was decent, my husband's ribeye was a little tough). 25
  • did take the girls to the Habachi show this is always a favorite out of any all-inclusives that we ever go to the food was great here On camera622:13
  • also one tip for you when you come in here get your coffee face from the coffee shop that's upstairs as it is so much nicer than the coffee that they have available in here On camera2215:55
  • I was there in June for a destination wedding. It's fine. Food is ok. Drinks good. Not the best, not the worst. Just fine. 21
  • We were worried about some of the reviews about food, but don't find they had any merit. The food is not 'perfect perfect' but it's really quite good with some surprising upscale selections at the buffet. 19
  • I love that the resort had a couuple different food trucks and quick service options around the pool so that we could eat a quick bite at lunch without having to dry off. 16
  • Food quality is generally solid for a large all-inclusive property, not ultra fine dining, but consistent and well presented. On camera113:02
  • The Christmas gala dinner was the best spread I've ever seen anywhere. 19
  • Honestly I don't ever recommend any of the Royaltons due to poor quality, food and service. 19
  • Bad food. We tried the steakhouse and the teppenyaki. Both were disappointing. After that, we rented a car and didn't try food at Royalton. 8
  • The Caribbean restaurant was the standout a la carte for all of us. My lobster creole was very good in visit one (see below) and during visit two this year, the lobster tail was truly outstanding. 4
  • The buffet cafeteria stinks like bathroom 8
  • t is the Indian restaurant of the resort and we only got to eat here once during our stay usually I'll only eat mild curries when get an Indian food back at home so I ordered the coma here which back at home usually is very mild but here it was really spicy I think nearly everything on the menu in here is spicy the food is really tasty though but again the portion sizes are on the small side On camera2213:58
  • The food is genuinely the worst I've ever ate. My wife and I both barely ate because besides the breakfast from room service and the Hibachi, the food was just inedible. 8
  • Our chef kept us entertained while we had sushi appetizers and watched him prepare the main course. He did a great job of keeping the entire table engaged, including young children, who were seated with our group. My teens loved every minute of it. 16
  • The Gourmet Marché buffet is a no brainer for families and might actually have been my son's favorite part of the trip (who doesn't like pancakes, pastries, watermelon and sausage for breakfast?). 25
  • I enjoyed the breakfast at Gourmet Marche (their buffet) and liked the variety of food you could choose from. There were several different spots that all had the same types of food so you didn't have to wait in a long line and a lot of tables were available. 2
  • Actual-Churner • 3y ago Pretty good. We ate at the one Mexician style restaurant within diamond club twice for lunch as really enjoyed it. 8
  • There are also options for poolside eating (the ceviche was excellent) but lines can be long and a coffee/ice cream shop for your sweet fix. 25
  • Room service was 30/70. 30% they'd come with some of the things you asked for, and 70%, it would take multiple calls over several hours for them to show up. 8
  • If you're having trouble finding availability in the app, visit the reservation office next to the lobby. The staff there have access to the full restaurant schedule and can often see availability that doesn't appear in the app. Thanks to their help, our family was able to reserve restaurants for every day of our vacation. On camera181:49
  • A la carte restaurants can have long waits for dinner 1
  • Restaurants - You'll love the restaurants here! The Cave restaurant is really neat, so check it out! 3
  • If you're a coffee lover, I highly recommend grabbing a coffee from the lounge near the lobby. In my opinion, it's the best coffee at the resort. On camera183:23
  • The Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is a new 1,005-room luxury all-inclusive property which has first-rate service, beautiful rooms, a fantastic waterpark, sparkling pools overlooking the Caribbean, and excellent dining. 16
  • The breakfast spread here is particularly noteworthy, featuring everything from fresh tropical fruits to made to order omelettes, while dinner brings themed nights that showcase different global cuisines. On camera142:10
  • The resort itself is awesome, great pools, waterpark, service, food. However, I did get food poisoning on the last night of my 7 night stay. Nothing crazy, but I did have severe diarrhea. I suspect the culprit was the buffet area, which is massive and isn't always well temperature controlled. 21

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and two birthdays while we were at the resort, and the staff really did a special job of marking the occasions. 4

  • The check-in process was horrid. They overbooked, didn't say anything to us, and just kept tapping at the keyboard and talking amongst themselves. 8
  • Excellent service and kind staff (the best we've seen at any all-inclusive yet) 15
  • While guests say they found the rooms to be stylish and comfortable, many cited the stellar customer service as the main reason for a return visit. 20
  • Honestly I don't ever recommend any of the Royaltons due to poor quality, food and service. 19
  • Check in is slowwww. It just feels like it takes much longer than it needs to be, and some guests reported not getting their bags for more than an hour. 4
  • The staff is kind, engaging and eager to please kids of all types and styles. 15
  • It's 80' degrees at 12:43am This is by far the worst hotel our family has stayed at in all of Cancun and probably any Mexico resort as we travel there frequently in Cabo, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. They don't know the meaning of taking care of your guests or service. 21
  • Staff is very greedy for tips which is also a harassement 8
  • checkin didn't take long or they have a pre- checkin so it helps you skip the lines On camera61:49
  • Room service was 30/70. 30% they'd come with some of the things you asked for, and 70%, it would take multiple calls over several hours for them to show up. 8
  • Why we love it: Excellent service and activities for kids 3
  • I would highly recommend a day bed for 1-2 days, since you get exceptional service from the servers. I give them a 10 out of 10. 19
  • Poolside service ensures that guests never have to leave their loungers for refreshments with attentive staff circulating throughout the day to take drink and snack orders. On camera144:23
  • Service has been abysmal Wi-Fi not great UPDATE- Now AC not working. 21
  • Check-in is usually efficient, though during peak seasons, summer, holidays, spring break, lines can build due to the sheer size of the property. On camera114:06

  • Note that some of the rooms designated as ocean view directly face the pools, but still have a nice outlook over the ocean as well. 1
  • Highly recommend Breathless Riviera Maya, especially the swimout NON ocean view!! 19

  • But not this year! This year we actually got our sh*t together and organized a stay for our family-of-five in sunny Cancun, specifically at the Royalton Riviera Cancun, an all-inclusive resort conveniently located just 15 minutes away from the airport. 25
  • The beachfront location offers stunning sunrise views that make early morning walks particularly rewarding. On camera144:58
  • The resort sits along Carretera Federal 307 Chetumal Cancun, KM 332 in Quintana Roo, Mexico, with Cancun International Airport listed by Marriott as approximately 57 mi away. That makes it practical for a Riviera Cancun vacation because the transfer is not usually as long as going deeper toward Playa del Carmen or Chetumal. 17
  • another positive about this Resort is it's super close to the airport so especially if you're traveling with kids younger kids after you've been flying all day it's kind of miserable to get in a shuttle and have to you know go an hour or two to get to your Resort here depending on traffic you can be here in 15 20 minutes so very very short easy ride from the airport huge Plus On camera617:34
  • Ryaltton Splash Riviera Cancun is located in the Riviera Cancun hotel zone, roughly 15 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport, depending on traffic. This is extremely convenient for families traveling with children. On camera113:28
  • As in the name, it's located in the Playa Mujeres, a beautiful beach with white sand and stunning views. 19
  • In fact, I should also note here that the Royalton is only about 15 to 20 minutes from the Cancun airport, so those with bad knees (or fake ones like my Dad) won't be cooped up on a shuttle for hours and hours. 4

  • The value for this resort is good all things considered. One child is deeply discounted and the second is still far less than the adult fare. 4
  • I also really appreciated that the Scoops Gelato Shop and the coffee shop which serves up premium coffee drinks and bakery goods were both included in our all-inclusive price. So many times these types of perks are considered add ons. 16
  • The $30 includes a print in whatever size you would like as well as the digital photo. Did I mention no sitting fee? Try finding a deal like that back home! 16
  • If you're able to upgrade to a swim out room it's well worth the money! 8
  • In my opinion, this all-inclusive resort is a great value. I played around with their booking calendar and picked some dates during Spring Break. 16
  • As you can see, the room also came with a private hot tub/whirpool and swim-out infinity pool. It genuinely gives major celebrity lifestyles vibes at a somehow within-reach price point. Because sometimes, the universe is good, eh? 15
  • we didn't book as Diamond Club because personally I think that the extras you get being in Diamond and Club just don't justify the extra price for the holiday On camera223:24
  • The Diamon Club upgrade, with starts at about $100 per night more than base rates, is worth every penny. 15
  • with a slightly higher price the diamond club offers some of the best Services you can find in Cancun including the personal Butler Service having its own private pools restaurants and bars On camera121:49

  • Everything is gleaming and upscale, and the beautiful modern decor found throughout is a major part of the appeal here. 1
  • beds were comfortable I did have one complaint and you'll hear about it in just a moment when I go over my pros and cons of the result Resort but overall it was a nice room it was spacious the swim out Suite the girls loved On camera610:22
  • The Luxury Junior Suite is the entry-level category, and it's still plenty spacious, with a king-size bed or two queen beds and a sofa bed -- allowing for a max occupancy of five, which families will likely appreciate. 1
  • Slivovic • 2y ago • Edited 2y ago I just got back with my wife and 4 kids. We had a double room with diamond club. They did take care of us really well. 21
  • The swim-up Presidential one-bedroom Diamond Club suite, part of Royalton Suites & Villas, was plenty big for our family-of-five with the kids comfy on the sleeper sofa and the two bathrooms especially helpful for washing off the beach. 25
  • Closets had plenty of high-quality hangers and an easy-to-use safe. But best of all, our room came with a pull-out sofa that had a genuinely comfortable kids' mattress built right in. 15
  • There was no actual mattress like you would find on a more traditional sofa bed so were unable to use it as a third bed. Our room was very spacious and nicely designed, and we loved having a fridge stocked with complementary drinks and a couple snacks. 16
  • We finally got checked in two hours later. We booked the junior suite and it wasn't cheap so to find a very dated room, broken furniture, we were very disappointed. 8
  • Saw a lot of reviews saying the rooms smelled like mildew but our room was perfectly fine. 8
  • When we first arrived at the Royalton Cancun, I was taken aback by how luxe and modern it was. It felt like something out of South Beach, with its ultra-modern lobby and contemporary furniture. Clean lines and ivory decor with pieces that look like they're straight out of a magazine caught my eye in every direction. 4
  • Every room comes with a balcony, perfect for sipping your morning coffee or evening cocktail while soaking in those vacation vibes. On camera131:01
  • Luxury modern suites are a great place to relax and all feature top notch amenities, such as a rain shower, an in room safe, a stocked mini bar with complimentary beverages, room service and a balcony or terrace. 3
  • The Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is a new 1,005-room luxury all-inclusive property which has first-rate service, beautiful rooms, a fantastic waterpark, sparkling pools overlooking the Caribbean, and excellent dining. 16
  • Almost all buildings have a "mangrove side" (except for Building 6), and some guests facing the mangroves complain of the swampy smell, which makes sitting out on the balcony unpleasant. 1
  • I thought the room was an excellent size and the layout worked well. I do not think my family of 4 will feel crowded at all when we go for our next vacation. 2
  • Power not working in room Phone not working Did not clean our room when asked multiple times. 21
  • Did not clean our room when asked multiple times. Not once in 3 days 21
  • very spacious it's not the most fanciest room ever it's kind of basic a little boring but I just came back from some five-star luxury resorts so I'm trying not to have that in the back of my mind to compare this too but it's got everything you need On camera69:54
  • The accommodation options at Royaltton Riviera Cancun are genuinely impressive with each room type designed to offer something special for different types of travelers. On camera140:21
  • UPDATE- Now AC not working. It's 80' degrees at 12:43am Can't order room service No guacamole 21
  • I just got back with my wife and 4 kids. We had a double room with diamond club. They did take care of us really well. 21
  • ms at the Royalton all have the same upscale, modern decor, with tile floors, sleek wood, and lots of cream and beige. 1
  • the few from the room that they moved us to was easily 100 times better and from the balcony you got to see so many great things like the sunrise the sunset even a double rainbow and crocodiles On camera228:05
  • Thanks for your input!!ReplyHi! We have only stayed in the one bedroom so I unfortunately don't know the configuration of the other or what the bathroom size is like. It was more than enough room for us!! 4
  • Recent guests raved about the all-suite accommodations which feature minibars, flat-screen TVs, coffee makers, rainfall showers and balconies or terraces. 20
Bed & Sleep4 mentions · 2 filmed
  • It also had what was referred to as a "sofa bed", but was more like a love seat with cushions that folded out. Only very small children would be able to use it as an actual bed. There was no actual mattress like you would find on a more traditional sofa bed so were unable to use it as a third bed. 16
  • Our bed was really comfortable and we had enough blankets and pillows for everyone's needs (and I need a fair number of pillows for my personal Pillow Kingdom at night). 4
  • the rooms are also developed to enhance your comfort during your stay featuring their distinctive bed known as the dream bed each bed and all of the rooms at the Royalton Spa are uniquely handcrafted so you can be sure that you sleep well and wake up refreshed On camera121:07
  • Oh, and let's not forget the piece to resistance, the signature dream bed. It's like sleeping on a cloud, folks. A cloud with a really good mattress. On camera131:16
Bathroom7 mentions · 1 filmed
  • The bathrooms may not provide enough privacy for some; a curtain separates the bathtub from the bedroom in many units, and the shower has a frosted glass wall. 1
  • The shower was just as posh as the tub-a giant walk-in marble wonder with four shower heads and room for more than one. 15
  • What we didn't really like was that there was a strip of glass in the shower that was clear and visible from the main portion of the suite. It was high enough that only our faces could be seen (and we are a tall group), but it was still kind of weird. I would have appreciated full privacy while showering. 16
  • The bathroom area was large and suited my family's needs quite well. I appreciated that the shower was closed off from the vanity area and the toilet had its own separate door as well. This allowed multiple people to use the bathroom area at a time. 16
  • This is an easy fix. We didn't have any water - not for a toilet flush or to wash hands, much less take a shower - on our first night of the second trip. It only lasted about 30 minutes but that's not something I expect at a resort of this calibre. 4
  • I liked the larger shower and private bathtub area in addition to having 2 sinks. 2
  • the bathroom is very large it comes stock just like every room does robes slippers iron safe refrigerator with some drinks On camera610:09
