The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

The Radisson Blu Royal Hotel offers an ideal base right by Bergen's historic waterfront and old quarter. Guests consistently praise the comfortable beds, reliable free Wi-Fi, helpful staff, and an extensive breakfast buffet with warm and cold options. However, compact bathrooms can feel like a tight squeeze and often lack proper shower enclosures to prevent water from spilling out. 10122

  • Hotel bathrooms in Norway are rarely big so this is nothing unusual, but it was a tight squeeze. This was made up for in many respects by the excellent shower and, despite the small size of the room, plenty of space for toiletries. 12

  • 10 days ago we stayed at the Radisson Blu Royal in Bergen for two nights. The location is beyond ideal - it's literally right in the UNESCO World Heritage old center along the waterfront, just set back 50 meters and tucked in behind the historic row of colorful Bryggen buildings you see in every photo of the city. 10

  • Im Restaurant wird ebenfalls das Frühstück als Buffet serviert. Typisch skandinavisch, gibt es ein reichhaltiges Angebot an warmen und kalten Speisen, zu denen auch norwegische Fischspezialitäten gehören. 5
  • Opus XVI is undoubtedly the best. Their location is superb (2 blocks from the waterfront), their breakfast buffet is five star, and their rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. 6
  • Fantastic buffet breakfast 15
  • In the evening, we dine at 26 North's Restaurant and our tastebuds are sent into overdrive, excited by the tasty delights of the local cuisine. 22
  • While that is not wrong, all the hotels I've stayed in in Bergen (about 10) has had better buffets then Opus. They have a nice a la carte with eggs Benedict, avocado toast etc though. Don't get me wrong, the breakfast was good (7,5/10) and the hotel is definitely recommended by me. 6
  • Based on the forecast for next weekend in Bergen, 3-5/7, you shouldn't have to worry about air conditioning with daytime temperature in the low 60s. We stayed at the Thon Rosenkrantz in a superior room in May 2023.. Great location, comfortable room and wonderful breakfast buffet. 3
  • Great location and if the weather is nice you can have breakfast on the balcony right on the water. We enjoyed our stay at the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz in May 2023. Great location, nice breakfast. 10
  • huge huge buffet let's see what there is these are the cheeses naturally lubricated wow look at the amount of breads we've got here muffins yogurt 1
  • Coffee is provided in a flask on the table, saving a trip and the always endless queue at a Norwegian coffee machine! A good start. The buffet was decent with a good selection of hot items too. 12
  • The hallways were painted some extremely bright colors, which looked odd to us, but the room was nice and they had a good breakfast. 10
  • Breakfast had something for everyone and a lot of it. 15
  • And they had an early evening spread as well. Much smaller but great for a light dinner. All included in room cost. 10

  • Fantastic buffet breakfast Read full review 14
  • I forgot to mention about the breakfast - one of the best I had in Scandinavia. I didn't know about the pack your lunch at a cost. I used just took an extra pastry and fruit to go. But I did spend a good time at the breakfast getting my fuel for the day - the smoothies and coffee were fantastic, and great options for those with different diet (gluten free, vegetarian, etc). 3
  • Radisson Breakfast is also on top notch. In the contrary, Clarion had limited option for fruits or cheese or musli. Radisson had continental breakfast and lot of options for allergic person too. 13
  • Today, the hotel's Frescohallen restaurant is a Bergen attraction in and of itself, with its giant murals from 1923 uncovered and restored. 11
  • The mood and ambience of the restaurant is sleek, contemporary and inviting. We are impressed by the diverse menu and the staff's hospitality, as well as the cool presentation and freshness of the meals. N.B. The halibut is divine! 22
  • It was on the other side of the harbor from the Radisson, but we easily walked all over. We only stayed one night there, but we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. 11
  • Another vote for the Thon Rosenkrantz. Our room was quite large and the breakfast buffet was the grandest I've ever seen. They had choices for just about every cuisine you could want. 10

  • Good location, very clean. Check-in and check-out are automated at a kiosk. 10
  • Havnekontoret is supposed to be nice (Rihanna stayed there when she came to Bergen), but it's kinda "uncentral" in terms of being in the heart of the city. 2

  • Staff were incredibly kind; the baked salmon at breakfast truly stole the show during our enjoyable stay! 19
  • Kato (?) welcomed us. Very nice, helpful and our room was ready early so we were able to get in upon our early arrival. 15
  • I only ate a small meal and a beer here. That being said, the service was average and didn't inspire me to want to come back for something more substantial later in my stay. 12

  • Both Clarion Collection Havnekontoret and Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, are situated in the more historic part of Bergen. I would hardly call their location non central, seeing as they are only a 5 min walk from Hotel Norge. 2
  • Last August (2024) we stayed at the Thon Bristol and it was fine. The hallways were painted some extremely bright colors, which looked odd to us, but the room was nice and they had a good breakfast. The location was ideal. 10

  • I've also stayed at the Clarion Admiral. Great location and if the weather is nice you can have breakfast on the balcony right on the water. 10
  • The hotel location was ideal, and the hotel itself was well kept and clean. 11
  • If you decide that you might want a splurge, a once-in-a-lifetime incredible hotel, try Charmante. https://www.hotelcharmante.no/ I stayed there a few weeks ago - I kept walking around the hotel sitting, taking pictures, etc. It is a splurge, but sometimes you just have to. And I just checked online, air-conditioning is listed under the rooms. Great location as well. 3

  • Our Standard Double Room is light and bright with contemporary styling, a large picture window overlooking the museum area, tea and coffee making facilities, free WiFi and air con. 22
  • My first impression of the room was that it was smaller than many Radisson Blu hotels that I've stayed in. But I think that was down to the sloping roof more than anything. After a couple nights, I was comfortable and felt there was more than enough space. 12
  • The room was larger than expected, clean and quiet. 15
  • The hotel location was ideal, and the hotel itself was well kept and clean. Our room was spacious enough for both my daughter and I to spread out a bit. 11
  • On the other hand Radisson had all small things in room, big enough not to feel claustrophobic. 13
  • We stayed at the Thon Rosenkrantz in Bergen in early August not long ago and the weather during our stay was nearly a heatwave for Scandinavia which sadly I think is becoming more common. We did not have AC in the hotel room and it was brutal! We had to open the window in our room which didn't help and just let in light and outside noise. Sleeping was miserable. 3

  • We did have one issue: No air conditioning. Now, I had never dreamed that we would ever need or want aircon in Bergen, but when we were there, they were experiencing an unprecedented heat wave - with temps in the mid 80s. 10
