The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

Hyatt Place Denver/Downtown provides a reliable, walkable base for exploring the city with king rooms overlooking the snow-covered Rocky Mountains. Guests consistently praise the comfortable mattresses, spacious under-sink storage, and adjustable walk-in showers. However, housekeeping frequently slips on arrival basics, leaving guests with missing hand towels, washrags, or pillowcases. 14361

Every line below traces back to something a traveler actually wrote — open a line to read the original sentence and follow it to the source.

What travelers noticed

  • Bathrooms feature walk-in showers with adjustable shower heads, strong water pressure, and unattached hair dryers. 16
  • The walkable downtown location provides easy access to nearby city sights and places to walk around the neighborhood. 1
  • Rooms offer ample storage and comfortable beds, including sleeper sofas with quality mattresses and no poking springs. 6

The catch

  • While some guests praise the breakfast buffet and pastry selection, others report stocking problems with missing fruit and yogurt. 113
  • Certain rooms are quiet with plenty of space, whereas top-floor rooms situated directly under the gym suffer from disruptive noise. 56

Who it's for

  • Walkers exploring downtown Denver
  • Guests wanting mountain views
  • Families needing a comfortable sleeper sofa

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers assigned to rooms directly below the gym
  • Guests sensitive to missing towels or linen oversights
  • Drivers in a hurry relying on valet staff

  • Overall the room was good. It had enough space to store all our stuff (we travel full-time and so we have more items with us than your average guests) and it was nice and quiet. 1
  • Truffles gives the hotel four paws out of four - pawfect! Our room was quiet and she liked having decent places to walk around the neighborhood. 1

  • I'm a globalist, was upgraded to probably the best suite I've been to in a Hyatt at the Grand Hyatt Denver earlier this year. 5
  • The bedroom had a king bed. As with all our stays at Hyatt Places, our bed at the Denver Tech Center location was very comfortable. 1

  • The staff is known for their friendly and attentive service, always ready to assist with anything you need. 11
  • Service was way better across the board. Staff was more attentive and you felt the hospitality more at the Grand due to Regency being a big conference hotel. 13

  • The location of the Thompson is also a bit better, the GH is on the other side of downtown. That being said, I think the GH is a much better value on points, being about half the price of the Thompson, and the rooms are much bigger and tend to have better views. 5
  • Our room was quiet and she liked having decent places to walk around the neighborhood. It was also great that we were only charged a $75 per fee rather than $175 despite the fact that we stayed long enough that we should've incurred the higher pet fee. 1

  • In this case their breakfast wasn't amazing, but that was because they just restarted offering a hot breakfast again during our stay. 1
  • The hotel had a few teething problems with the reversion to their regular breakfast offering. Items weren't always well stocked; one morning there was no fruit or yogurt, while on a couple of mornings there was a fairly long wait for hot items as they had to make more as they'd run out. 1
  • Breakfast each day was buffet style and amazing. Dinner was good too. 5

  • The shower was terrific. The shower head was nice and high and it was truly adjustable to produce a nice hard stream of water. 6
  • There is plenty of counter space and even a good bit of storage room available under the sink. We liked that the hair dryer was not attached to the wall which meant one person could use it even while others were using the bathroom. 6

  • One of my pet peeves with Hyatt Places is that there's often no power outlet in the living room area. That was no issue at the Hyatt Place Denver Tech Center as there were more than enough outlets available. 1
  • The bedroom had a king bed. As with all our stays at Hyatt Places, our bed at the Denver Tech Center location was very comfortable. 1
  • I didn't really like the suite at the Thompson, it was small and dark in the living room since the layout I had only had windows in the bedroom. 5
  • A small area next to the ample closet, served as a coffee and tea station. 14
  • I'm a globalist, was upgraded to probably the best suite I've been to in a Hyatt at the Grand Hyatt Denver earlier this year. 5
  • Definitely the GH. I got a suite upgrade without requesting it. The beddings are much comfortable. 13
  • The sleeper sofa was surprisingly comfortable. I was a little wary but was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the mattress and lack of springs poking me in the back. 6
  • The king bed with a mountain view offered a beautiful look at the snow-covered Rocky Mountains, as well as downtown Denver. 14

  • I had the same towel experience a few weeks ago. No hand towels or washrags, 2 bath towels only on check-in. I forgot to ask, but thankfully, it was rectified on day 2. 3
  • Housekeeping for this floor is either incompetent or an ass. No pillowcases on all but one of the pillows on the first night. 3
  • Front desk folks seem nice. 3

  • I stayed at the Grand Hyatt early 2020 and really liked it, great service and nice room/property and got upgraded to the top floor as a Discoverist 5
  • GH was very accommodating with suite upgrades as a Glob compared the HR. 13
  • The only hotel-provided parking available is with the valet. We thought about parking on the street but the valet pointed out it was cheaper to park at the nearby Pavillions shopping center. He even watched our car for us while we checked in. 6
  • There isn't much to say about service from our stay. The staff were friendly enough, but we had very few interactions beyond checking in and out. 1

  • As a globalist, they were all over the place with the benefits. They did not know which items counted for breakfast, and how to handle tips (which they are paid by Hyatt but charge anyway to the customer, and make you feel like shit if you bring that up). 5
  • The GH is probably overall my favorite Hyatt property in Denver. The Thompson has a better breakfast, but since you're not a globalist, unless you plan on paying for an overpriced hotel breakfast that doesn't really matter. 5
  • There were lots of other spots around the hotel though, so you shouldn't have a problem finding somewhere to park. We booked our stay at the Hyatt Place Denver Tech Center because they were charging a reasonable room rate during our dates. 1
  • Otherwise, great hotel & stay for the price. 13

  • Location wise both are about the same as located only a few blocks from each other towards end of 16th street mall. The surrounding area of HR is a little nicer than GH but you can't go wrong either way. 13
  • The Hyatt Place Denver Tech Center is, as the name suggests, located in Denver Tech Center. It's therefore a convenient place to stay if you'll be visiting businesses at Denver Tech Center for work during non-COVID times; when we stayed there in late August/early September 2021, a lot of offices still seemed to be closed. 1
  • The hotel is situated in the heart of Denver, making it extremely walkable. You are just steps away from the Denver Athletic Club and a short walk to the Triennial Museum and Civic Center Park. On camera80:12
  • The location of the Thompson is also a bit better, the GH is on the other side of downtown. 5

  • The Hyatt in Lakewood is clutch. It's easy easy drive to red rocks, steps from a target and away from the chaos. 5
  • Downtown Denver is surprisingly walkable and the Hyatt Place is in a great location to enjoy much of what there is to see. 6
