The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

The hotel provides comfortable lodging close to the Gare de Lyon rail station. Guests appreciate the clean, renovated bathrooms with walk-in showers and effective air conditioning. However, check-in organization can be confusing with abrupt reception service, and rooms remain quite small even when booking more spacious room categories. 51069

  • we stayed at the Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille this past May, and have no complaints. The room was comfortable and the location was surprisingly quiet, given its proximity to a busy rail station. 10
  • I stayed on the third floor and there was little to no noise from the street. A little bit seeped from the next door rooms. 6

  • I'm also going to mention the Crowne Plaza Republique. I haven't stayed there yet (Covid canceled), but I did make a booking on points for the basic room and then emailed them and they offered a very reasonably priced upgrade to the family room (something like 20 euros/night-- less than the price difference). 4
  • Ibis Ledru-Rollin has a giant garden in the back, so ask for a garden-side room. Breakfast here is reasonable for the price. 9

Location22 mentions
  • I've stayed here several times and I like the location. The hotel is located at a mtro stop (served by the major line 1 and a RER line). 4
  • From a practical point of view, the location is excellent. We used Uber and Bolt for most of the stay and could reach almost all the main sights in around 15 minutes. That is very convenient in a city the size of Paris. 5
  • I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza Republique (not a Kimpton or Holiday Inn) and I really enjoyed my stay there. Great location. 2
  • purpletooth12 • 5mo ago I stayed at the IHG in Montmarte and it was fine. It was a bit odd that they only gave you 2 coffee pods/day and only after my pushing back did they finally give me 2 more, but the location was good. 2
  • If you have IHG points to use, or points to gain, then you might look at the Holiday Inn St Germain Des Pres. It is centrally located, nice neighborhood, it did not seem overly pricey compared to other hotels. 10
  • Subway entrance is literally 20 feet from the front door so super easy to get somewhere. 2
  • I've stayed here many times over the years and been in quite a wide variety of rooms. Including what I think must be the second largest suite I've enjoyed in Paris. (First place must be the Ambassador Suite at Le Grand). But the main reason I stay here is convenience to the train station and the worlds finest train station restaurant, Le Train Bleu. 5
  • B) is close to the station, location is otherwise a bit meh. 4
  • C) on the other hand is located just off Rue Daguerre, which I think is one of the nicest old-style Parisian streets (put https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rue_Daguerre through Google translate). 4
  • I recently completed a trip at the IC LeGrand across from Kimpton. It was a great place to stay and location was really convenient for first time visitors to Paris. 2
  • choice A is the most centrally located, probably easiest access to the top tourist spots especially since youre traveling with youngsters. 4
  • I used to stay here but the neighborhood became a bit drab so I moved on. 5
  • I stayed at the Holiday inn Paris Opera Grands blvd and loved it. Subway entrance is literally 20 feet from the front door so super easy to get somewhere. 2
  • This convenient hotel gives you a stylish base in a brilliant corner of the city. You'll be a short stroll from Gare de Lyon, so Eurostar connections, TGVs and airport links are all easy. 6
  • It was a bit odd that they only gave you 2 coffee pods/day and only after my pushing back did they finally give me 2 more, but the location was good. 2
  • The location is excellent, a subway and RER right next to the hotel, very easy to get everywhere. 4
  • The journey took around two hours, and the train arrived at Gare de Lyon, which is only a very short walk from the hotel. For anyone arriving by train, the location is extremely convenient. 5
  • The hotel is located close to the Gare de Lyon station, but not too close. Overall, this central placement make it comfortable for you to access all form of transportation. 6
  • More importantly they are less than a minute walk from the Oberkampf metro station which will get you to the 5 and 9, which will enable you to get to any of the RER trains and even to ORLY with ease. 12
  • A) is in a neighbourhood that can be a bit rough, esp. at night. It's also really loud, even by Parisian standards.Probably not where I would stay with pre-teens. 4
  • I also stayed at the Holiday Inn Auteuil last year and while a little further out, it's still in Paris proper and well connected. Two minute walk from the metro and close to bus stops with popular routes. 2
  • Holiday Inn Paris Gare de Lyon Bastille is ideally located in the centre, 300 yards from Gare de Lyon Station. 3
Service8 mentions
  • Finding a genuinely good-value hotel in Paris is not easy, and this property has the potential to be one. However, the reception experience was poor, the organisation during check-in was confusing, and being given a room that had not been cleaned was unacceptable. 5
  • The lobby and bar are made for pre-dinner bubbles, quick coffee breaks and planning your metro-hopping adventures. There's free Wi-Fi to keep your maps and museum tickets handy, plus friendly staff who know their way around all the local bakeries and bistros. 6
  • Kimpton is fantastic, one of the best Kimpton hotels we have stayed at. We were given a double upgrade and many extra amenities, on top of check in at 9am and incredible concierge services for a birthday celebration. 2
  • The whole check-in process felt surprisingly disorganised. My family arrived late that evening, so I was relieved that I had managed to sort everything out before they reached the hotel. 5
  • I asked him to check the total again and showed him both the IHG app and my booking confirmations. His response was rather abrupt, and he simply told me that I was wrong. Perhaps there was a language issue, a cultural misunderstanding or some kind of system error, but I found the situation quite uncomfortable. 5
  • The rooms are tiny, but it's just a place to crash and they have a very nice garden open till 10pm. 12
  • More replies nat2407 • 5mo ago Kimpton is fantastic, one of the best Kimpton hotels we have stayed at. We were given a double upgrade and many extra amenities, on top of check in at 9am and incredible concierge services for a birthday celebration. 2
  • The towels were crusty wash rags. For 1,000$ a night, the towels should be large and fluffy. 6

  • Ibis Ledru-Rollin has a giant garden in the back, so ask for a garden-side room. Breakfast here is reasonable for the price. 9
  • About ten years ago we stayed several nights at the Hotel Corail, on Rue de Lyon a few blocks north of the station. It wasn't too expensive, comfortable enough, with breakfast included as I recall. 9
  • Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille,4-star remodelled rooms with shower are the best. Overpriced breakfast. 9
  • Locomo quirky 3- star but clean, comfortable, local favorite. Overpriced breakfast. 9
  • The bedrooms could also use refurbishment, and more attention should be paid to general cleanliness. 5
Food14 mentions
  • Breakfast is a generous buffet, ideal before a day of Louvre-hopping or vintage shopping in the Marais. 6
  • Breakfast was nice but wasn't needed as there are tons of spots around the hotel including a Dunkin and Starbucks should you want American brands. 2
  • It was a bit odd that they only gave you 2 coffee pods/day and only after my pushing back did they finally give me 2 more, but the location was good. 2
  • And the breakfast spread was awesome. 2
  • The hotel was very clean. Modern, good breakfast. 6
  • Breakfast was good, and we ate at the hotel every morning. 5
  • The hotel's public areas are much nicer than I would normally expect from a Holiday Inn. The restaurant in particular is very stylish. 5
  • purpletooth12 • 5mo ago I stayed at the IHG in Montmarte and it was fine. It was a bit odd that they only gave you 2 coffee pods/day and only after my pushing back did they finally give me 2 more, but the location was good. 2

  • Grand blvd is my #1 for having the metro literally 6 feet from the entrance. Breakfast was nice but wasn't needed as there are tons of spots around the hotel including a Dunkin and Starbucks should you want American brands. 2
  • The restaurant - especially for breakfast - was overpriced. 6
  • Marceau Bastille 4 star half-way between Gare de Lyon and Bastille. Comfy rooms. Only bathtubs with shower. Good breakfast. 9
  • A buffet breakfast is provided daily at the Holiday Inn Paris Gare de Lyon Bastille and either served in the lovely dining area or in the comfort of your own room. 3
Noise4 mentions
  • I stayed on the third floor and there was little to no noise from the street. A little bit seeped from the next door rooms. 6
  • Transport is OK with a Metro station literally outside the front door, and while Avenue du Maine is not a quiet side street, it's not the worst for noise either (I don't think you'll be able to get one of the rooms at the back of the hotel, overlooking Montparnasse cemetary, on points). 4
  • we stayed at the Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille this past May, and have no complaints. The room was comfortable and the location was surprisingly quiet, given its proximity to a busy rail station. 10
  • A) is in a neighbourhood that can be a bit rough, esp. at night. It's also really loud, even by Parisian standards.Probably not where I would stay with pre-teens. 4
Bathroom3 mentions
  • The bathroom is nice and has modern fixtures and decent soaps. 6
  • Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille,4-star remodelled rooms with shower are the best. 9
  • Nice touches include a walk-in shower and a separate toilet, along with hair dryers and bath sheets. 7
Room9 mentions
  • The rooms were quite small, although this is hardly unusual in Paris. We had booked one of the hotel's more spacious room categories, but there was still not a great deal of extra space. 5
  • The bedrooms themselves were more dated. The carpets and furniture could use an update, and the overall standard of cleanliness was only average. 5
  • Both rooms had balconies with two chairs and a small table. Having a balcony was a pleasant feature, but the outdoor furniture was noticeably dusty. 5
  • The rooms are spacious (I had the king bed room) and well organized. 6
  • I just remembered that when we stayed at the hotel in the title we were given a room fairly far up and on the back. We opened the curtains and there was the Eiffel Tower twinkling away in the near distance. 10
  • we stayed at the Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille this past May, and have no complaints. The room was comfortable and the location was surprisingly quiet, given its proximity to a busy rail station. 10
  • The only thing I would say is that the top level room/suite didn't have the greatest view, but at least it wasn't overlooking a garbage bin or anything. 2
  • I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Etoile on points. The standard room is fine for 2 adults and two small children. 4
  • Most importantly, the air conditioning was GREAT. You have a modern thermostat too and can control it very well. 6
