  • I going to pass most of the small annoyances and get to the big one: there was no water in our room for a day. We could not shower, we couldn't flush the toilet (they shut the water off without warning us first and my kid was literally taking a poop at the time so we couldn't flush it until over 8 hours later). 10

  • It is a little further out of the historical district, but still close enough to walk places. It's on the beach, which is also nice. 4

Quotes run exactly as travelers wrote them — spelling and all. We trim for length, never for tidiness.

Food2 mentions
  • Hemingway's is pretty decent for a hotel restaurant, there's been times it's been excellent, on par with some of the fine dining places around Cape May, and other times it's been pretty pedestrian, though never bad. 4
  • Hemingways is nothing special for dining, so I wouldn't put much weight on the dining credit. 4
Service7 mentions
  • Other stuff: cold, dirty indoor pool, leaky ceiling in indoor pool area out stuff got wet before we noticed what was happening, moldy shower curtains, took two hours to get sheets for second bed, run down building, just all around a big thumbs down. 10
  • I don't know why people say it's dirty, every time we've been there, no matter what time of year, the whole property always clean, and the staff is super friendly. 4
  • The staff is also very friendly and welcoming 4
  • The location, rooms, common areas, pool, and customer service were all excellent! 1
  • All of the staff there were extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. 1
  • "All of the staff there were extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. We had a spectacular view of the ocean from our balcony. 1
  • Grand hotel is where my family typically stays and have had no issues with it being dirty or poorly managed. It's always decently priced, comfortable and clean. 4

  • Arachne93 • 2y ago We love The Grand, it's a very nice hotel. It is a little further out of the historical district, but still close enough to walk places. 4
  • I'm not saying avoid it if it's a good deal, but you won't have much option to walk to anything where it is located vs other places. 4
  • It is a little further out of the historical district, but still close enough to walk places. It's on the beach, which is also nice. 4
  • The Grand is not a hard walk to the historic area of Cape May and the Washington Mall (it's safe and under a mile), but young kids might feel otherwise. 4

Room5 mentions
  • The Marquis de Lafayette is good IF and only if you can get a renovated room,(we've stayed in their family suites which worked out nicely since we try to not be in the same room as our kids). 4
  • Luxurious guest rooms come with amenities like a Tempur-Pedic® mattress and semi-private balcony. 7
  • So the next morning when I checked out I told the desk clerk what room we were in and how the water was still brown and not hot and she immediately snapped "the water problem today is the town, you're not getting a refund, I can credit you $50". 10
