The verdict

Who's travelling?

Pick a traveller type to re-weight the scores and re-rank the rooms around what you actually care about.

Read it your way

The DoubleTree by Hilton Alana is a Waikiki hotel featuring comfortable Sweet Dreams beds and furnished private lanais. Guests consistently highlight the exceptionally friendly staff and seamless check-in service. However, street-facing rooms are prone to outside noise, and on-site dining options are limited and costly. 1522

What travelers noticed

  • Front desk staff welcome travelers with warm aloha spirit and provide an easy check-in process alongside valet parking assistance. 23
  • Beds are soft and comfortable with generous pillows, ensuring a restful night of sleep. 21
  • Bathrooms feature walk-in rainfall showers, though guests note the squeeze bottles for toiletries are hard to dispense. 13

The catch

  • While some guests appreciate lovely city and sea sights from their private balconies, others describe the views as unimpressive. 13
  • Some visitors enjoy the morning breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelettes, but others feel on-property food options are limited and overly expensive. 713

Skip it if

  • Light sleepers sensitive to street noise
  • Travelers avoiding expensive on-site dining and snacks

  • Have not stayed at either, but I go to that DoubleTree to pick up cars from Enterprise Car Share regularly, and have coffee at times at the café in the Hyatt Place. In terms of location, it's the Hyatt hands down. Personally, being near the water is a big deal. 10

  • Configurations range from standard doubles to sprawling penthouse suites, and all are spacious and bright with soft, neutral tones, carpeted floors, dark wood furniture, ergonomic work desks, and floral artworks adorning the walls. 13
  • Stayed at the Wayfinder around New Years and enjoyed it. Rooms aren't huge but didn't feel tight and we had a corner room with a wraparound balcony which was nice. There's great poke in the downstairs restaurant and you're not more than a 5 min walk from the beach. 19
  • Like the rest of the hotel, all 317 rooms and suites are simply decorated with Hawaiian-inspired decor, though they appear a bit tired. Sagging furniture and dinged-up walls were both spotted during our 2017 visit, though the wear is relatively minor. 13

  • It is open from 7:00 to 15:00. There was a small convenience store beside the front desk. There were drinks, cut fruits, cup noodles and snacks being sold. It was a little more expensive than ABC Mart and a normal convenience store. 21
  • DarthBradicus88 • 5y ago It was actually not a bad price, for Hawaii. It was actually not a bad price, for Hawaii. I booked the cheapest room and was upgraded to Rainbow Tower, Marina/Ocean View, and when I extended my stay, they lowered the rate. 5
  • Outrigger was great too, in the heart of the action, just more expensive with less of a view. 17
  • Downsides include the daily resort fee and extra charges for breakfast and parking. 13
  • Definitely an option if I go to O'ahu again in the future and don't care about the beach. It was actually not a bad price, for Hawaii. I booked the cheapest room and was upgraded to Rainbow Tower, Marina/Ocean View, and when I extended my stay, they lowered the rate. 5
  • A varied breakfast buffet is served here in the mornings, with made-to-order omelettes, though it costs extra. 13
  • Food options on the property were limited and super expensive, so we ended up ordering a lot of Uber Eats because it was easier than trekking off property and wasting time. 7
  • Embassy suites is Hilton and often in that price range and is On the same side of Waikiki as HHV. It has that famous buffet breakfast with an omelette bar. 7
  • The Ilikai Marina units were definitely more of a bargain though, and we loved having a full kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. 17
  • Edit: Just watched the video. Looks nice, and definitely worth the price, but the rooms are definitely smaller, and I enjoyed being on the beach. 5
  • I like the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but they just started a resort fee, which is a rip. 17
  • Several packages are offered online to make this hotel an even greater value. 23

  • The modern is very nice, but it is a walk from the main part of waikiki. If you are looking to stay on property after 5 nights at the Hilton hawaiian village, the modern is a great change of pace and location. 7
  • We've not stayed there, but we peeked at The Breakers a couple of years ago, and if I were on a budget, I'd definitely consider that hotel. Great location, and very cute. 17

  • It's a convenient spot for business travelers, as the Hawaii Convention Center is a short 10-minute walk from the hotel. 13
  • beejer91 • 2y ago We liked Hilton Waikiki. We liked Hilton Waikiki. A bit far from our preferred beach (royal Moana/outrigger beach) but only a block or so away from A beach, close to a good spot for poke. 19

  • As a plus, the breakfast spread was quite impressive; easily the best I've had at any Hyatt Place. 10
  • The hotel has a lovely restaurant called Trees Restaurant & Bar so named because it is surrounded by palm trees. 23
  • Two rooftop pools, music around the pool bar nightly, great breakfast buffet, fabulous sushi and steak restaurant onsite, proximity to the beach and Fantastic customer service make this our go to hotel on Oahu. 17
  • There was nothing inside the fridge. There was a restaurant called "Trees Restaurant & Bar" on the first floor. They serve breakfast here, but also turns into a bar in the evening. There were no staff around and I was a little confused with the system. 21
